Basically what I need to know is how to bleed air out of the cooling system, by the thermostat, because I have heard that could be the problem to my high temps. I just replaced the thermostat and radiator cap so I know it is not one of the two. So if someone could guide me through this I would appreciate it
-Get a small tube over the bleeder screw on the t-stat housing.
-With the engine cold, open the cap.
-Put the tube(must be long, about 2 feet or so)in a bucket to catch fluid.
-Open the bleeder using a 10mm wrench
-Pour fresh coolant into the t-stat housing and watch for the level to rise.
-Let the level fall back down, then repeat.
-Repeat until you get a smooth flow of coolant out the tube into the bucket catching the coolant.
-Close the bleeder
-Put the cap back on
good info, i need to do this when i get home. Ive read that the car needs to be turned on though. does it matter?

uhh.. if you do it when the motor is off... the T-stat will be closed... i just start the car with the cap off and wait til it gets to operating temps... then the t-stat will open and you can top off your fluid... dont forget to use the special dodge fluid and be prepared for the yummy coolant smell as your overflow pushses out any extra within the next few days...
Thanks I finally have some time to try this tonight. But I found that my engine only heats up when its stopped sitting still, when I start moving it will go down again, does anyone have any other ideas???
you want it to heat up with the cap off... that way the thermostat will open and burp the air out... as long as you take the cap off with it cold before you start it, it wont bubble out...
Yea maybe it wasn't cold enough, but I also heard it could be because my fans weren't coming on, so I'm going to go up to Dodge today to try to get the fuse I need.
What is your engine temp at????
Mine gets warmer at stop as you have reduced the air flow over the cooling fins of your radiator. The fans at high speed can still only pull in so much air.
Have you checked the mix of the coolant with a hydrometer, this is mainly for the freezing point but it will also tell you if you have the right 50/50 mix. Your mix may be wrong.
Worst case you can REMOVE the thermostat. This will ensure the engine is always getting the coldest coolant. If your temps drop and it stops overheating you may have a bad thermostat.
Make sure the fans are turning on. They should turn on around 205 and shut of just below 200. They should always be on when the a/c is on, (good way to check if they are working) if they arent working, check to make sure they turn freely then check your fuses and relays and replace if they are blown..
good luck.... I just went through the same problem only it was self inflicted due to a multi plier tool sheath getting stuck in my fan shroud that i had left under the hood.
I had my engine the other day beep becuase it was on the red line on my guage :S when i was stopped, then it went back down...i dont think its ever seen 90 degress C* in city driving. could that have something to do with putting 5W40 in this blazing hot weather?
