Default Anyone have good luck with ARP headstuds?

Is there anyone out there who has had good luck with the ARP headstuds? I've seen alot of posts these last few days of people who are having bad luck with them.

I currently have them installed in my car but have only put 100miles on it since and no problems yet....not saying that I wont have problems though.

After reading the DCR post and looking at all the pictures...

My ARP studs have the 9/16 12 point nuts...same as DCR....not the 1/2" ones.

My ARP studs also came with washers that were larger than the stock one. Not smaller as in the DCR post.

So....Still wondering if anyone has had good luck with them yet.

I don't think there is anything against them.

All the high horsepower Honda's and Acura's run em'.

there was a guy recently that posted bad stuff about them and the vendors seem to push their version for more $$$. The guys on neons.org all use them w/ no probs I noticed on mine when I 1st went to install that if they are not all the way down in the block then the nuts wont thread down to teh head and it will be loose. Using a bottoming tap to clean all the threads in the block allows the studs to go all the way down the block and clamp nicely.
OH btw this is using VW 1.8t studs, same ones I have and many people use on 2.4's swapped into older neons and boosted

I had talked to ARP a year ago when we had an issue with the wrong studs. We asked if they knew about the issue that DCR had brought up adn they said they were aware of it since they had a conversation with Darrell, himself and since then have rectified the situation. They told us they had changed the nuts and the washers after that conversation, and when we did receive our replacement studs from the vendor (ExtremeBoost), not ARP, and it did indeed have the larger washers and nuts.

The recent issue on the forums (see castrol's post above) should not cause you any concern as it seems to be a isolated incident (mass production companies do have their share of mistakes on packaging).

When I was putting the motor together the head bolt holes were not really tapped equally. I did what SpeedEuphoria did and retapped all the holes. They went in fine. Head bolted on fine, etc etc.

I just see all these posts about ARP head studs being peices of shit and so on. Dont you think that you'd run into problem with the vehicle was first started if the head wasnt on correctly? Lack of compression? or massive coolant leak? Overheat due to combustion in cooling system? White smoke due to coolant in combustion chamber? Head loose?

But since I just built the motor last week, and then I see the ARP post it kinda makes me wonder if anyone here is running them without problems.

The studs themselfs are good, the nuts and washers are a problem. We have bigger washers and nuts that go with our stud kit to take care of that problem. ARP had an issue here a while back on getting the wrong length studs out to there customers but that has all been taken care of now. What ever you do dont get the prepackaged ARP stud kit for our car. Washers and nuts are to small.

Several are running them with out problems but many of those are not in very high HP levels. If you a HIGH HP car I would recommend upgrading the nuts and washwers.

I know of several 500+hp cars that use the 1.8VW studs w/ no probs and these have the smaller washers/nuts(7/16" IIRC) most of the cars have never even blew the stock neon MLS gasket. 10 seconds flat in one car and there is another that I think has these studs?? and runs 9.6@150mph

But I would rather have a little more meat
