Default agp wastegate questions

im new to turbocharged cars. i have a stock 04 srt-4. I bought a agp wastegate and put it on last week. the other i was running through the gears and my check engine light started flashin and i noticed the car started to surge and shake when i would get on the throttle. I know the wastegate is adjustable but im not sure where it should be set at for an otherwise stock car. Im worried about it getting to lean. What should i do. Do i need to upgrade to a stage 1 or do i need a wideband. Im not sure what way to go. I want the benefits of the wastegate but i dont want to damage my car.

What should i do. any suggestions

We are going to need a few answers first
1. How did u hook up the wastegate just the same as the stock with the same vacuum lines and everything?
2. Whats urs spike boost and what does it hold at
3. Cycle ur key in the ignition 3 times really fast from off to run and get the codes for the car then post them on here. Then we can probably help. Good luck

I agree no matter what if you are upping the boost a wideband is an essential and you will also need a fuel controller or ghetto map clamp. Or even stage 1 but that costs more.

yes i hooked it up exactly like the stock one and used the hose that was on the stock one too. the codes are P1188, P0234. The first time i ran it i was spiking 20 or 21. Im pretty sure this is bad for a stock fuel system. Makes it run really lean. Today im putting the stock wastegate back on. I want to use the agp one but what should i get before i can put it back one. Stage 1 pcm or Stage 2. Im not sure.

dude alls u do is cap the intercooler sensor get vaccum line form the green line on the turbo to the black line on ur wastgate. then have it hold 15 to 16 and no more then 16 at redline. no more codes or check engine lights. it was a bitch to put on just think of doing it twice.

NO, it wont run lean. Stage 0-1 use the 2 bar map and tip sensors which read up to 18 psi of boost. The computer will see what boost you are pushing and using the O2 sensors adjust fuel accordingly. Run the vacuum line from the wga to the back of the turbo and cap the old line from the pcm.

I had the same happen to me when I bought the same WGA. I just had the ECU re-done and now it runs fine. I set the WGA to run 18PSI

Ok thats a big help. My next question is would it be possible to get a Stage 2 without having to get the stage 1 pcm. What i mean is can the computer that i have now be reprogrammed to work with Stage 2. I guess wat im really trying to say is wat is the best way to get some noticeable power. All i have right now is that wastegate. Where should i go from here. I was thinkin maybe a down pipe or intake. Any good ideas?

If you want power downpipe would be better than intake but if u do the downpipe get a 3" o2 housing 2 and do that while you are at it. Also to save yourself alot of time and headache buy a modified heat shield from pt-performance and just cut the old piece of shit off it will save alot of headache. good luck with your car bro.
