Default removing paint scuff from bumper

I have a small black scuff on my rear bumper. I think something black scuffed my bumper. What would be the best to use to get this off? Some 1500 grit sand paper, or would that be to harsh? thanks

Don't go right to the sandpaper. Try a mild compound first, Meguiars's Scratch X is a good one.

yes buffing compound could do the trick... if the scratch isnt to bad use 2000 grit and try that...

we get this all the time here at the shop... customers come and we have to get a scratch out...

I was just going to ask that, most clay bars will remove paint transfer scuffs no problem.

If not, a good product you can use by hand is the new Meguiars Ultimate Compound. It's available at any Wal-Mart etc....

If it paint transfer, then you really just need to clean it off, not cut the original paint. I would avoid compounds and use the mildest polish first. Something like Scratch-X (might be called Swirl-X now..?) would be a good place to start.

Don't be impatient and try to restore it one pass. You probably don't want to be left with a bunch of swirls and micro-marring in place of the transfer you have now.
