Default pressure washing engine bay

I had a question about pressure washing the engine bay. A friend of mine informed me not to use any kind of pressure on the engine bay to just get a wet rag and whipe it down. The main questions is whether or not this is true as to the safety of pressure washing the engine..

This is simple

1. Simple green automotive cleaner wait 10 minutes

2. Garden hose it down/ You dont need a superhigh pressure washer.

I wash the motor down while the car is running.

You can use a pressure washer if you want to, just be careful not to spray directly over electrical connections.

If you don't feel comfortable using high pressure, just use a garden house.

Do it while the engine is running, and if you have access to an air hose, and blow dry it when your done.

Get your engine to tempreture, spray down with simple green, or a degreaser I prefer a debgreaser, let sit for a min or two, and just hose down, let the steam do is work and just make sure the engine is running, let the water evap from the engine back. Did mine last weekend all clean, no issues. Except for the damn squeeky tensinor.

haha my tensioner is squeeky too but we've also had quite a bit of rain...and that is one thing i will have to do next time...last time i went ahead and put degreaser on with the engine cold and then used light pressure on washing it off...

Personally, I wouldn't be spaying cold water on a hot engine.

I've always used a good degreaser like Gunk, Simple Green, or Greased Lightning and coat the engine bay. Cover up your filter if you have an open ended filter. Let it soak and then after a few min I get some car wash and give everything a good rub down and then hose off. No need for high pressure.

well i have a heated pressure washer and it has adjustable pressure on it i just used a degreaser and then sprayed lightly with the pressure washer no more pressure than a garden hose..but for the filter i didn't spray around it...i just kind of passed it...i just wanted to make sure that watering down the engine wouldn't cause lockup or anything...i mean i didnt' sandblast pressure it i just degreased then lightly washed off the residue..but i didn't know if there was any wires i needed to look out for or stuff like that next time i won't have too though.i'm gonna be getting a powdercoated valve cover shortly so i'll be just whiping off next time
