This past weekend I finally had a chance to polish my silver paint. I would especially notice the swirls at gas stations with the over head lamps in the canopys and it would drive me insane. It was tough to spot the swirls if you weren't looking out for them so besides wanting to remove them I wanted the clarity in the paint along with the wetness.
It was tough to photograph the swirls so this is what I got, it was alot worse then this
Polishing with a rotory
The defects were removed with no problem
I was really digging the wetness just after the first stage of polishing
The wing needed to come off so I could be able polish the whole trunk lid.
These shots are after the second stage of polishing
These shots are after NXT 2.0. I tried to get some sun shots but all month long it seemed to be hidden bu gloomy clouds
The tail lights were also polished
I had a tear on the seat. I had that taken care of by someone else that came out to my home to repair it.
After
Before I installed the wing back on I applied silicone to the outer part of the holes
nice job, what products were used? How do you like nxt 2.0? Is it easy to apply and remove?
Thanks Sriquixotic, I used Meguiars M105 and M205 as my polishes. I like NXT 2.0 alot. It's a synthetic wax that has cleaners in it as well and lasts longer than a traditional carnauba wax. I find it easier to apply by machine ( e.g. porter cable DA 7424 or Meguiars G110 DA) than by hand.
Applying two thin coats is easier to work with than 1 thick coat. Applying one thick coat is not going to add extra protection or gloss plus it'll probably be a little tougher to remove.

I recently bought a flex 3401, megs 105 and 205. The flex is great and feels so much better than the porter cable, it vibrates a lot less even with more power than the pc. I tried m105 with an orange ccs pad and I had to make about 2 passes before I got rid of all of the swirls with my black 05 srt4, but it did leave the clear coat a little hazy so I followed up with a black pad and m205 and it came out perfect. I have only done the hood so far, but will post my entire detail once I get the chance. I thought nxt 2.0 was a sealant as that is what I would use on a silver car for that glassy reflective look, but the wax looks good too.
I haven't used a flex yet. I was thinking about getting it only because of the forced rotation and better and quicker results. Meguiars G110 is slightly more powerful than the porter cable 7424. Now Porter Cable has come up with the 7424XP which is slightly more powerful than the Meguiars G110. It's not a bad machine for $120.00 or so. The flex is what about $280-$299?? Not sure I still may get one just to have. Since I'm proficient on the rotory that's still my go to for best results.

Finishing up with the black pad and M205 does refine your finish flawlessly. I would consider NXT 2.0 a sealant very similair to Meguairs M21 2.0. You can do the NXT 2.0 first and follow up with a carnauba wax. If I have time today I'll do that as well to mine. Can't wait to check out your write up.
How would you rate the clear coat in terms of hardness? Were the swirls coming out easy, or did you feel like you had to make a lot of passes with the machine?
I have a PC and plan on using the M205/105 combo as well when i get around to buying the pads and polish. I'm not sure on the hardness of the paint though, and therefore I'm not sure if i'll need to use the ccs yellow pads, or if the orange pads will be strong enough.
Thanks whiteSRT69. Minus the front end chips on my car I think it looks better than when I bought it new.

I would say the clear is a bit on the harder side. Not as hard as Corvette clear but soft enough that you will get great results with a PC orange pad and some M105. With the rotory I was able to quickly remove any defects. Before you use the orange pad try the yellow ccs pad first with M105 see what that gets you. If you see it's not aggressive enough then go with the orange ccs pad. You can even try M205 with a yellow pad and go from there. Always do a test spot to see the results. Once you dial in the best combo use that on the rest of the car. The last thing you want is to polish out the whole car and not be happy with the results.

Very cool. If you don't have some already buy som Meguiars Ultimate quick Wax. It's like a quick spray detailer but with wax in it. Use it when your paint is clean or when it has very light dust on it. The results are amazing and will boost any existing wax you already have on the paint.

yeah i use that too after like about a week after waxing and then after washing
I also have the pc 7424 and I tried it out first on my srt before going to the flex. I used a 5.5" edge orange foam pad and the PC just wasn't doing the job with those pads and m105 so I tried a 4" orange foam and I got much better results. If your aiming for correction with the PC try using 4" pads instead of a more aggressive combo of large pads and polish, atleast with our hard clear coat. I'm actually detailing a friends evo this weekend. Any suggestions to make silver paint really stand out? I was just going to put 2 coats of megs sealant and their yellow carnauba wax, but I think 2 coats of the sealant and no wax might look better on a silver car.
