Piratewilly's Car Project (Making my car look as nice as it runs)

(Im a few days behind posting here, im on day 5 already)

So it begins. Gonna paint my car. I haven't attempted a painting project this big, but I figured it can't look any worse than it looks now haha. My plan of attack is to wet sand it down smooth, take out all of the cracks from the clear and paint, fix dents, primer and then take to have it painted by a professional. I'll be doing the hard work haha.

Pictures don't work. Also what are your plans with the car? Just make a show quality car or make it have power too?

Day 2 of my project. Got some more of the hood and did a couple of repairs on some chip marks with filler primer. I ran out of daylight or I would have sanded down the filler and have that part of the hood finished to a point.

Oh BTW, u like my new wheels? I wanted something that looked like the factory wheels but we're wider so my wider tires would fit better. They are also much lighter than my factory wheels. I dig em haha.

Day 3, didn't get to do a ton of work on it but every little bit helps. I need to take some pieces off like the plastic piece on the air intake and the window sprayers but all my tools are at my parents house and at work. I will continue tomorrow.

Day 4: Glad I had a little extra time to work on it today, the clear on the passenger side of the hood was just crazy hard to get off. Hoods all sanded down now, just need to primer and sand it down again and move on to the fenders. If you noticed the little bit of tape of the door and fender I think I'm going to just sand down to that point and do a 2 tone because everything under that point I'd great and there is a nice body line I can follow, still haven't decided yet though.

Day 5: Stepping away from the sanding and body work today, the driver seat is pretty tore up so I went ahead and removed it today and I'm having it reupholstered. Also, when I got the car it had these terrible euro style tail lights installed. In the trunk I found the originals but they have been tinted really dark black. I installed them and like the look better but I think I'm gonna work them a little to see if I can make them a little more red... What do you think?

Remember, a great paint job is 95% prep work, 5% paint!

YEAH! for sure, thats why im spending most my time working on the body. I think a crappy paint job can look worse than a car with faded paint a lot of time. A co-worker just got done painting his car and you can really tell he only cared about getting the paint on the car, the body work is terrible. its a joke to me.

Day 6: Back to the sanding. Started work on the left fender. I also decided I'm going to follow the natural body line and only paint above that since underneath that body line is fine. This means a 2 tone color since it would be near impossible to match faded black. I did a little test today, masking off the line I want to try, sanding to that point, primering and then sanding down again. I think it's gone a look alright. Only pay attention to the bottom line not the one on the side where the door ends, the paint will continue on past that point.

Day 7: Dang it's already been a week! I sanded down the other fender today. Masked off the front area of the car and hit it with some primer. I then let that dry and sanded it down smooth. I'm gonna go another coat probably tomorrow but here is how it turned out. so far not bad.
