So I finally decided to pull the trigger on some suspension stuff, and just had a few things i wanted to ask before it all gets here.
So what will be installed is:
BC coils with rear plates
Hotchkis sways and end links
Moog Problem solver LCAs.
Is there anything I am missing or may need that I forgot about to finish this? The coils and sways will be here from Modern next Tuesday-Wednesday. I already got the control arms, but the Vertical bushing doesn't look to be the Problem solver bushing. I plan on this being done next Thursday-Friday, so If I need to order another set of arms, or some prothane LCA solid bushings, I need to know asap so I can get it here in time.
Anything special or helpful I will need to know while installing /setting up the coils and sways? I remember reading some people had rubbing issues in the rear on the sways where the bolt would hit the caliper, or something along those lines?
Regardless, going from worn stock LCAs , blown struts, shitty lowering springs, and worn bushings is going to be a dramatic change, So I'm just trying to get a heads up on everything so I dont miss some stupid little thing 1/2 way into the swap..
If those are indeed NOT the problem solver bushings, what should I do? Just run with it? Try to order another set, or buy some PS bushings and mess with pushing them in?
Shitty. I must have gotten one of the old batches. I wouldn't really need a whole kit as most of my bushings will be replaced anyways .. I also picked up some mopar performance rear arms, the Hotchkis sways come will all new bushings and endlinks as well.. just debating if I want to just put them in, order another set or buy rhe vertical bushings and press them into the new arms..
Well I called moog, ( or the independent seller affiliated with them) and they said they do NOT make a problem solver bushing for the srt4, and that even when you order a ck ( problem solver arm ) it just means it's a serviceable part with a grease fitting....
Kind of misleading if you ask me, but..... I guess my only option now is to replace the vertical bushing in the new problem solver arms with a poly insert...
If this is wrong, and someone has the part number for the PS vertical bushing , please post it up... otherwise I'll just order some prothane bushings
I dont know if I want to call advance auto and order a new pair of ares, as I may get the same thing I have withOUT the ps vertical bushing, or just order the bushing itself, press the new one out of the new arm, and press that in.. Kind of in a time crunch , so thats why I see to be rushing
Moog LCA with part numbers starting with RK are the value line. You want the ones beginning with CK. and a heads up, use advance auto parts. Order online with promo code TRT30 to save 30% . You can pickup in store same day.
Description for CK parts says comes with problem solver..
I have the correct arms, and when I asked the bimbo on the phone she said the problem solver bushing Part # K200797 would not work...
I was under the assumption the problem solver bushings came with the arms
, and when I called to verify if I could get the arms WITH the PS vertical bushing, she said no.. When I asked if I could press in a PS vertical bushing to the new arms, she said no as they don't make a bushing for this car, even after I specifiaclly told here part # k200797 says it IS the correct bushing
This is a standard vertical/large bushing that comes installed in the old-stock Problem Solver LCA, or with a standard Moog LCA.
Circa 2014 Moog started actually pressing a Problem Solver vertical bushing in their Problem Solver LCA. Notice it has 'Problem Solver' printed on it.
This is the Problem Solver vert bushing by itself. Obviously it will fit in the LCA but I have heard it's not as easy to press in as polyurethane which has some flexibility.
This is a complete Problem Solver LCA. They all have the Problem Solver ball joint. Notice the standard horizontal bushing, they don't make a Problem Solver horizontal piece. I believe the phone tech doesn't know her vertical from her horizontal..She is not a keeper. If you have a polyurethane set and a C clamp you can swap out the stock piece very easily.
As far as product lines, you want the K or CK designation. I got CK as its readily available. The R line is the value line and does not hold to the Problem Solver standard, regardless of which country it was manufactured. Either line may have the older vertical bushing so order from a trusted place that moves product. Ending on a photo.
Ck620009 and CK 620010 is correct but the same part numbers will get you either version depending on where you shop. I can only say that Rock Auto has the newer stock. You will get a PS ball joint and PS vert bushing pre-installed but none have a PS horizontal bushing because it doesn't exist. Luckily that is the easy one to swap.
No prob thank the cat he is the real brains in my operation.
Thanks capn.. I read through you thread a while ago, but just thought they would all have the ps verticle bushing by now..
I had advance order me a set of problem solver arms and the ps verticle bushings... if they are the new revised arms I'll buy them and toss them on, but if not I'll just press in the ps verticles into the arms I have.
Yea no prob you had put it all together already.
If Advance Auto has them with pre installed PS vert bushings please let us know as that would be a good source.
I saved about fifty bucks not having to buy the vert bushing separately, and not to mention the trouble of renting a ball joint press to swap them.
Just curious, how did the rear Hotchkiss endlinks work out for you?
When I did mine in 2003, the endlinks that came with the kit didn't fit and I had to make my own.
Thanks.
I'd order from rock auto... I tried advance auto, and one arm was a problem solver and the other was the standard verticle bushing.. Rock auto moves so much product that they've probably had the revised arms with the problem solver verticle for years..
I'll let you know in a few hours how the endlinks go. But I'm pretty sure they made a revision since you bought yours
After the advance auto online discount, and rock autos shipping cost, I believe they were about $15 difference in price.. Without the discount at advance , I believe they were around $120 a piece?
Just wondering, I don't see anything in this thready about rear suspension upgrades.
Have you thought about Mopar Performance Adjustable Rear Control Arms ?
I have no experience with the DCR rear LCA's.
My car used to have the MannyZ rear LCA's.
But I forgot to treat the threads on the 8 heim joints with anti-seize when first installed so they eventually froze sold after 10+ years - no adjustment.
So I replaced them with the Mopar Performance rear LCA's and also the front LCA's with the Modern Performace LCA's with Prothane bushings.
It's perfect again.
