Default lower ball joint boot install

Do I have to take the lower ball joint out to replace the boot. Do you just pry the old one off the joint, and throw new one on? How do you secure the boot onto the ball joint?

You don't have to take the lower ball joint out. The boot pops out, then you can buy a new ball joint boot for only a couple bucks. S&P carries them. And it will pop back in, its difficult to get the boot to pop back in, it takes some force. About a 10 minute job, I tore the boot on mine when I was removing the LCA.

To get it out pry with a screwdriver. To get it on I used the butt of a screwdriver, you have to get one side in and hold it down so it doesn't pop out. Then go in a circular motion popping the whole thing in. Took me like 15 minutes to figure out how to pop that thing in.

yeah.
Might as well get two boots, If I remember they're only a couple bucks and you'll have the extra if you screw up the other side.

This diagram might help....

I have to do the same once I get my lock nut off that won't come off.

I was thinking a piece of pvc might work instead of the miller tool they use when I go to put it back on...
