Default BC Coilover questions...

Hey guys,

Need a little help with my BCs non-inverted. This is my first experience with Coil-overs so I'm learning as I go.

The problem I'm having is the ride is EXTREMELY bouncy. Like I'm riding on the springs themselves with a blown strut. The slightest bump and i feel like im riding on a spring mattress which i know isn't right.

So first I play with the preload. Set front and rear up with 5mm of preload on the springs. I measured from the top of the spring to the lower spring perch making sure to start from equal lengths on the springs (0 preload). That made little difference so I added a little more preload. Basically I kept playing with the preload (adding 5mm at a time) and it finally got a little better around 15mm preload in the front and 20mm preload in the rear. Something tells me that I shouldn't have to put THAT much preload on the springs.

Here is my current setup.
Strut firmness set to 8 counts (full hard being 0 according to the instructions) which is suppose to be like stock.
Preload as stated above.
Ride height set at 26inchs in the front 26.5inchs in the rear.
Alignment set as stock for now.

I'm out of ideas here. Any help would be appreciated.

There is your problem. Out of 32 adjustments, you chose 8 from the stiffest. Your fillings should be rattling out of your teeth from that much stiffness.

Turn the adjustment knob counter-clockwise all the way until it stops. that is your softest setting. the count 8 clicks in a clockwise motion. Then you are 8 clicks from the softest setting. front and rear settings at 8 from full soft is a great start for daily driving.

Try that out and check back here to tell us how it went.

All I can say is I'm a damn idiot. You were right.

I must have read the instructions backwards or some thing. Either way thanks for the help.

I don't blame you. After all, the whole instruction manual is written in Taiwanese.

Yeah, that's what I am reading on the forums, not 20mm

yeah. BC recommends 5mm preload. you might want to back your preload down alot because; you may daily drive smoothly, but when the car will compress the spring, you will lose all travel and bind up your spring. Exactly as taking a slinky and squeezing it until it bends and pops out sideways.
