Default Adjusting BC coilovers

Hi All, I think I have accurate information. But I thought I better double check. I have the basic non inverted BC coilovers.

So if we call the palates A, B & C looking at the coilover from the top down. A & B being the top 2 palates and C being the bottom palate. Can someone verify what I need to do to adjust Height & Preload. Include which way palates need to be turned etc.

Thanks

To adjust height alone you break "c" loose and turn the whole assembly down into the lower mount to lower the car or up out of the mount to raise it, then tighten "c" to lock the height. To adjust preload you will break "b" loose, then turn "a" up or down to increase or decrease preload, then lock "b" back up against "a" to secure everything.

One more quick question. How do you turn the whole assembly? The previous information I had, was that to lower the car you loosen palate C and then you use the tool that came with the coilovers and you turn palate A clockwise to lower the car. Is this not accurate?

Thanks

that is correct. turn "a" clockwise to lower the assembly into the mount.

Thanks Stow.

Now from what I can see, adjusting the preload does change the height a little.
I say this because I adjusted the rear to were I want it. 2 inches between palates B & C. The rear tires are slightly tucked. But when I went to tighten up the preload the distance between palates B & C would also get wider.

But I think I need more preload because it is rubbing when I drive it.

I had IPP coilovers before these BC's and the car was sitting even lower than I have it now and was not rubbing. So I know I am not setting too low.

Also, I read some where about factory preload on the BC's being 5mm. Where do I measure this at? I'm not sure how much preload I currently have on mine.

to adjust preload, or see what you have, you need to fully lower "a" until the spring can be moved by hand. Then you'll raise "a" up 5mm from where the spring is just barely snug. Yes, raising "a" to increase preload can/will change ride height some as well. You really don't want too much preload because it can affect a good bit more than just the ride height and clearance. The handling and ride quality can be adversely affected with too much preload.

Damn my preload must be pretty messed up. I measured between palates B & C on both rears. They are both 2 1/2 inches apart. But one side sits a good half inch higher than the other side. I must have way to much preload on the side that is sitting lower.

yeah, you can't go with equal distances on each side because each corner does carry a different weight. Measure from the middle of the wheel to the fender lip and make the two distances equal on each side.

Set the prelmoad to 5mm, then set the ride height.

Ok will do. I'm totally clueless when it comes to suspension. So where am I measuring the 5mm?

how far you move "a" up once it makes first contact with the bottom of the spring.

Okay its looking like I am not going to be able to run my back tires tucked with my current setup (17 inch 225/45/17). The outsides of the tires are pretty much rubbing on the wheelwell around the top. Its cutting a pretty good groove in them. How much of a difference would rolling the wheelwells make?

sounds like you have little/no negative camber. If you get at least -1° you should get things tucked in better.
