i recently returned from a long hiatus but why was war stories removed? i use to get a kick out of some of the shit in that forum.

A vain attempt at implementing moderation steps after the fact. It's hard to imagine now, but there was a time when it was thought that off-topic type stuff and other crap was spreading to everywhere on the forums (kind of like what it has become today). And when minimal moderation was stepped up to no affect the section was taken down. Kind of like giving people free range and then trying to corral them up and impose/enforce rules. Didn't work very well.
That and the supposed "thread whoring" taxed the inadequate servers. What's kind of funny is that it's essentially the same or worse now, just that the actual W.S. section doesn't exist. That and there's no longer as much real tech discussion about the SRT-4 (which you can't really have without vendors jumping in and pushing stuff and flaming people who don't agree with them) so that type of OT discussion is all that's left to keep many people coming back.
War stories = srtforums now. If you're looking for practically anything else you're screwed.

Ya know it's funny,, There is a PT Cruiser site that has tons of advertising,, that site is dieing,,, well has died. Now there is another PT site,, That has ZERO ads,,, has a free vendor section,, and has a link to donate through PayPal. I know the site owner personally,, she has no problem keeping the site up through donations only. MOST of the members that I know donate $25-$50 A YEAR. I donate at least that much YEARLY,, why???? The site is clear of ads. The site owner vows to never allow ads. I like the SRT Forums,, will hang around,, but it does need to speed up.
I can't be too mad, I have been running FF&AB+ for years it seems but still I paid for srtoc and got a sticker in the mail 9 months later. The next thing I know the dude who was trippin out at the Nationals in N.O. has raped the boards for thousands of $ with a pic of him with a baindaid on his head.
This place was great for about 1.5 years. Remember when the content was top notch? I mean EVERY thread was informative! Now, it's a ricerfest.
well its been a few hours and im back. last night i stated that srtforums was trying to nag us into paying wih the detrimental speed of the site, but this morning something seems to have changed. pages are loading fine.
so basically i see no issue with this move, except that i still believe that paying members should have no ads at all. other than that.. keep up the good work
I think Ill keep the side ads. It will give me something to read while the slow site loads.
~I may be tempted to go premium if the perks improve however.

If you have Windows XP, open up "My Computer" and go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. In that folder you will see a file called hosts. You may need to go to tools > folder options, and then the view tab and select show hidden files and folders. Right Click on it and select Open. A dialog box will come up. Scroll down and select Notepad. Once you do that, you will see something like this:

If I were to pay could I get my old name back that was only able to post 1-2 times and then never worked again? I asked for help many times and never heard anything. The money is going to buy people to handle situations like that? Also, are the vendors that are paying to advertise here aware that your goal is to get the members to pay you to not see their ads?
