I wonder if any of the non-vendor advertisers know that their ads can be effectively blocked by the paid membership, and if they are getting a discount on ads for potentially lost revenue. :
i'm pretty sure those ads are all based on impressions or action, so it all scales. fewer views/clicks = they pay less.
In all honesty, I really could care less. This site=ricer/kid site. The only people left here are kids that heard SRT's are quick and had mommy and daddy buy them one, lazy post whores that like lag time and post restrictions, and one or two hardcore SRT peeps that show up once in a while. Oh, and vendors. Most of the quality folks moved on a long time ago, and I know where to find them if I need them. I don't mind if ekool bleeds the rest of you dry

non-vendor ads are getting/spending money based on clicks and views. They know this when signing up with the ad company. They aren't paying to get an ad shown directly on SRTforums for every one of the 58,806 current members.
Another forum I frequent, non car related, is a free site that has put up a few ads in the top right corner (unused space otherwise) and at the very bottom. The ad company, not the site owners, decide which ads get shown first, and then the site owners can come back and say "don't use this ad because it's nsfw". Some of these approved by the ad company ads were flash files and actually screwed with the page apperance due to resizing itself without any interaction from the user. These ads caused many users to add certain domains to the restricted sites list under their internet properties and drove the owners crazy trying to figure out which ads in the rotation were causing problems. Now, things are fine and the ads are not intrusive and if you want to block them, it's fairly easy, but it just took a few weeks to get things straight once the change was made.
The lesson is you can bitch and complain all you want, but the changes will take place and the end result will be acceptable for everyone involved. Dodge didn't make their first car a Viper, so don't expect all changes to be perfect immediately after they are put in place. I trust the admin team (we certainly could use a few more moderators to control things) will get things set up and in 2 weeks we won't even know/care/remember how things were 2 days ago.
Also, thank you for making intellitext able to be turned off by the user.
I dont even get a liscence plate frame for being a lifetime member?
do you want my SRTOC frame?
FWIW, SRTOC died out a LOOOOOOONG time ago... and i'm the only one he took the privileges away from...
but they talk about it like it was this great thing, but the ONLY thing it gave you was discounts on like 4 things, the only decent one being Lorenzo Throttlebodies... good luck finding one of those on the forums

Yeah I was around then. Kinda bad when all your paying for is to have nonvendors names disappear. I'm not sure but it sounds like this was a last minute descision and not even sure what it's going to do for people.
so let me get this straight... you are offing incentives for members to pay the site money. I find that odd. This is a pretty good money maker for you as it is.
Now my numbers are from over a year ago from a PM i recieved from you.
77 vendors listed... lets drop it down to 70 since i know some are not active like the low life Kustomatix that is still listed.
70 x $100 per month = $7000 per month / $84,000 per year
that is excluding the google ads and other adds listed that probably make you some change because of the traffic on this site.
and then there is the 30+ other forums... I'm not sure what you paying extN Tech. but i bet it doesn't put a dent in your earnings.
Food for thought for everyone else... Needless to say you won't be getting my money...
edit: i'm not hating on you... I'm happy for you, you done great things (for yourself). I'm hating on the "supporting" member option.

The very simple matter is: If you don't want to sign up, Don't... its no different then SRToc was when it was started. Join or not, up to you. Pretty simple.

personally, i think it is different... when SRToc was around, the site wasn't cluttered up with ads beforehand to be CONSIDERABLY less enjoyable, then say "if you pay me, it goes away"
so yeah, i'd say its different... at least this time, paying does get you something, even if that something is "making it go back to the way it was"

Paying for additional services and goods(didnt you get a package for being a member) is fine, but changing things and saying pay to bring it back to normal are 2 different thigns
