Default TopSpeed.Com Previews The SRT-4 Caliber

Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) group will take the SRT4 reputation to new heights with the introduction of the all-new, 300-horsepower 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4.

"The all-new 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4 achieves the SRT mission of offering benchmark performance for the best price," said George Murphy, Senior Vice President – Global Marketing, Chrysler Group. "With 300 horsepower under the hood, the Dodge Caliber SRT4 will dominate the sport-compact market."

With true tuner performance right out of the box and a great price, enthusiasts immediately took to the original SRT4, which was introduced in 2003 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In the 2003-2005 model years, more than 25,000 Dodge SRT4s were sold.

"We couldn’t wait to infuse Dodge Caliber with the SRT formula," said Murphy. "The all-new 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4 delivers a strong dose of all-around performance while delivering more than 28 miles per gallon on the highway. Our new SRT pocket rocket is going to be a hoot to drive."

Aluminum block? Think I just found the only part on this car I might want, since they are saying the 6 speed tranny is only good for 300lbs torque.....kinda limits the aftermarket right out of the box.......right out of that article:

"Power is transferred through a dual-mass flywheel to the six-speed manual transmission. The dual-mass flywheel consists of two flywheels sandwiching internal springs that are specially tuned to reduce noise and vibration. The GF DMT-6 six-speed transmission, equipped with a limited-slip differential for uniform side-to-side power transfer, is capable of handling up to 300 lb.-ft. of torque."

Well that tranny is junk if that is all it is good for, so I guess this makes the block the only part of the car worth knowing about? I wonder if the brakes are any better and interchangeable?

"The Cobalt firmly grabs you and whisks you along your way instantly. It does so with authority and poise, but while slipping relatively unnoticed through traffic, never being violent, or dare I say it, frightening. When you ask the SRT-4 to take you somewhere fast, it punches you in the face, throws you over its shoulder, and runs, screaming, so quickly that its tires can barely keep up."

Top Speed 170 Mph
0 to 60 6 s
Engine 2.4 liter V8
Horse Power 300 H.P.
Torque 260 Lb.Ft.
First year 2007
I think the top speed of 170mph is about as accurate as the 2.4l v8

Im sure the OEMs really downrate the amount of abuse a stock piece can take. For example, I've seen Buick GNs running low 10s with stock crank, rods and block.. probably around 700hp at the flywheel. I'm pretty sure they never rated them that high

wow is it still ugly. Looks great on paper, but shit is it ugly in those pictures.
3" exhaust stock (with 2 cats)

Wasnt the VVT just introduced in the new EVO? I though i read somewhere that it was fairly recent and gave a decent power advantage over before.

Looks like it is going to be a battle of the old Vs the new. Cant wait to race my first one

I like the way it looks. At the very least, it isn't any worse looking than the googly-eyed Neon.

Wonder what it will cost? Oh yeah, and good point. I can't wait to destroy one of those things. Some poor bastard thinking version 2.0 is obviously better.

One of the smartest comments made so far on this car !!!!! This was yet again another bad joke taken way too far !!!! This is a mistake that only time will show !! Just like the GTO ( which has the power )that now they can't even give away , the Ford T-brid which also cannot be given away for free anymore , the Charger which is a good looking car other than the fact the the name just shouldn't of been given to that car which looks nothing like the one we all know !! trying to make this car a "replacment" for the Neon SRT-4 was not the smartest thing to do , I'll call it now and say that this car will sell a bit at first then just die out just like the GTO which looks just the same as ALL other Pontiacs .

I understand what your saying but the GTO sales have in fact been trending in the opposite direction. Slow start but picking up some speed.
