Chevy Cobalt SS and Saturn ION Redline numbers increasing...
As mentioned in our Previous News Posting the Cobalt SS is competition for the SRT-4 in alot of ways. Chevy has decided to offer a performance based vehicle at a very attractive price. Saturn too, has taken the platform and released the Saturn ION Redline, a vehicle that also competes in the direct market of the SRT-4.
The Chevy Cobalt SS is finally hitting the streets in decent numbers, so you should definetly be on the lookout for competition lurking in your area. The Saturn ION Redline is no slouch either, so once again you should be on the lookout.
One of our long time members Ray is a proud owner of both vehicles, and a quick review of the differences in the vehicles can be found here:
Oh, I blinked and missed it when I was passing it today! I wonder if chevy is going to offer staged upgrades like Mopar does? That is what really sold me with my SRT4.
I dunno about staged upgrades. it has a supercharger on it. you're some what limited in what you can do with that. Smaller pully is the most you can do to increase any performance out of one with out out right replacing it.
I *REALLY* hate the front end of this car and the redline. they look like half assed after market body kits like you see on hondas. It just doesnt look natural on it.

Well... just last week I was in a known toll road North of Houston, when, right after I passed the toll a black spot aporoached me from behind really quick.
It was really early so the road was pretty empty, this guy had an EVO all blacked out, rims, tints, no graphics. (really cool, and sounded really healthy)
We did two rolls with a one and one count, (one for me, one for him), but not by much, just a bumper infront of each other.
We passed an incoming ramp on the second run, and out of the corner I saw this red thing flying trying to catch up with us. We slowed down and let him catch up. This guy was in a CobaltSS red with paper plates and plastic on the seats.
He took the EVO first, and it was "UGLY", three car lenghts ...at least... just on the take off. from a roll @ 30/40.
He was banging on the steering wheel, when I caught up with them, and he wave me up, we slowed down to 35 and we took off.... couldn't tell how far... but he was left behind quick.
The guy on the EVO caught up with me, and we both took off.
MOral of the story:
I don't believe that that thing is faster than an SRT-4 Stock by Stock (and definitely not faster than mine), I don't like that thing, (looks like a Civic front on a cavalier body), and for that price fully loaded (27k and some change) you can get something better.
THE END

Sorry Ekool, I have not seen one redline and no cobalts yet. In my case I don't see it as direct competition, sorry. Good job with the website promo work though.
well we have a colbalt SS here at the shop at modern performance and all i can say is the car is alot nicer than the srt. i mean this by the interior and standard features . sure it doesnt have the srt power but it rides awesome and looks great . the car is all response as you tap the pedal its really a well put together car , chevy did a damn good job and i drive it a work all the time over my modded srt anyday

Alex that's an interesting quote coming from you, do you really like it that much?
I had a cobalt ordered and they were taking to long so it gave me more time to save up my money for my 05 srt4.
The cobalt looks sweet and its awesome that there will be other domestics around but they dont stand a chance against the srt4 so whats all this about looking out for comp? You should be going on the cobalt forum telling them to watch out... From what ive been hearing, cobalt is already at its max. You can change the pulleys but you will need to upgrade ur whole cooling system. And there only thinking about making twin chargers. no talk of upgrades like the srt...
hey id take a cobalt and if it would have came in then i would have one and would probly get beaten by the srt. lol
im happy eatin mustangs and trans ams for lunch...
lets just see if someone can mod up a redline or cobalt to stay with the evo..
there the same exact engine.. so basically everything from the redline bolts right up..
p.s...... check out the forum for the cobalt.
ive seen a few vids and they were not very interesting to me.. I mean when you put the petal to the floor to do a burnout and its sad to see it not give out much tq to do it then umm. ya lol
Seen it at the NY Car Show. Very nice looking, but bring it on . . .just a another snack for the beast to chew up.
