With SRT (Dodge's in-house performance division) Vehicle Dynamics engineer Erich Heuschele helping strap me into the Teamtech 6-point harness seatbelt he added to the new Dodge Viper ACR, a machine he knows inside and out from having been an integral part of its development, there was something both familiar and a little intimidating about the situation.
As a Touring Car racing driver, I've been strapped into my fair share of fast machines, but having a factory engineer (and accomplished racing driver himself) briefing me on handling characteristics and the layout of a track I was completely unfamiliar with, I'd be lying if I didn't admit to some trepidation. Add to that the mighty rumble of the big snake's 8.4-liter 600-horsepower V-10 powerplant coming to life as I hit the 'Start' button and my heart rate was definitely starting to climb.
This is the world's current fastest production car in Nurburgring. There is nothing anyone can say to change this. All the other fanboys can shove it. End of discussion. Nissan GT-R is not beating it, Corvette ZR-1 is not topping it, and Porsche's 911 is not stopping it. Everybody else, just sit down, and shut up.

It sure did make the record, but didnt corvette come back after some tuning and set the record again?? maybe i heard wrong. The first time I laid eyes on a viper(8or9yrs old) I feel in love...I told my parents, one day....one day, I will own one.

corvette beat its own record, THEN viper came and shaved about four seconds off its time, IIRC.
Funny thing is the vette was developed with tons of hours of testing at the 'ring, and the viper crew showed up, rented it out for 12 hours, and waxed their asses!

IIRC thats what happened. Last I heard the Viper has the record for a production car.
However, I believe the modifications they made to the vette removed the 'factory' status. Could be wrong though.
