Default Varicool controller not injecting

I'm currently testing my new CoolingMist SRT-4 HOM W/I installation and I got a problem with my controller: it won't inject even if all required parameters are met.

Minimum pressure is set to 11, maximum pressure is set to 17, "Tune" button to 10, maximum pump dutycycle is limited to 75% to have an even spray and TPS voltage trigger is set to 2.7 Volts.

When my controller is connected to my laptop, I see that the controller see TPS voltage and boost correctly. The status LED is blinking rapidly but it won't go solid when needed.

I tried to prime the system with the CoolingMist software and the response of the pump is instantaneous, so I know that my system is hooked correctly.

Any idea about what's going on? What could be the cause for this behavior?

*EDIT* I just remembered that I didn't connect the small black wire from the controller: I just covered it with tape. I didn't see anything in the instructions that told to connect this wire. Could that be the problem? Should I connect it to ground? Can this wire be connected on the same ground as the controller?

the black wire does not do anything, dont connect it. Its only used for grounding an external sensor.

If you injected using the software it shows the controller works. When you go to the set screen what does it say its programmed for? Does "boost" register on the boost gauge?

How old is your kit? Did you buy from us? (forgive me for asking I cant always remember). all of our controllers do not go solid only ones from the last 3 years. Anyway, let me know.

Here are the values of the SET screen:

Input/Output
- MIN Dutycycle = 25%
- MAX dutycycle = 75%
- Tuning factor = 1

Control mode
- Boost primary, voltage trigger
- Voltage trigger = 2.7

Locking
- MIN lock = 0
- MAX lock = 0
- Tune lock = 0

I didn't notice if boost is showing on the boost gauge. However, in the "Graphs" screen, it did show up correctly.

This kit is basically a trunkmount kit I bought from one of your groupbuys in 2006. It was upgraded with a Varicool controller. The controller comes from your Canadian reseller Kinetic Motorsports. I bought it new 3-4 months ago. Controller version number is 1.4 and software revision is 4.0.

*EDIT: I just retried and boost is showing in the boost gauge of the "Sensor watch" screen. The system did work a brief moment. Here is some data from the controller:

Pretty weird, it's the first time it works in 5 tries. I'll try again later tomorrow.

Okay, my controller is working. I had a problem with my wastegate adjustment so I had sooo much boost lag and I must be really close to WOT to get the right TPS voltage.

Now, I have two questions:

- With my Aerofoce scan gauge, I see values from 0.00 to 2.91 for the TPS voltage and my controller is set to start inject when the TPS is at 2.7 volts. I got a little more than 1/2" of throttle play between 2.7 and 2.9 (WOT). Should I lower the TPS voltage value on the controller for it to activate earlier? At which throttle position percentage should the controller activate normally? Please note that I have an aftermarket throttle body (MPx 62 mm).

- Second question. I got a JMB cold side pipe and I know that it will eventually rust due to methanol use. Is there anything (a light oil maybe) that can be added to the water/methanol mix to help prevent corrosion of the hard pipe without hurting the whole injection kit?

You can set the unit to turn on earlier for sure. We put 2.7 to make sure the throttle is pressed before injecting. This keeps you from bogging the engine. If can move it earlier, try it. As long as you dont bog the engine you are good.

I believe running methanol should keep it from rusting. Other than that we dont recommend additives.

Thanks for the tips, David.

I'm currently running 99.9% pure methanol with distilled water on a 40/60 methanol/water proportion. I changed the TPS voltage to 2.5 and it seems better. I have a M5 nozzle near the intercooler exit and a M3 near the throttle body. I did a run yesterday with HOM activated; it held to 5,500 RPM in 3rd gear and pretty high in 4th gear. This was done with half/half 91 octane and 94 octane gas. Pretty cool.
