Default My meth pump was setup wrong - update!

OK, here is the deal, I did not install it, it came installed on my car. I bought my car from dcrtuner, who bought the car from JohnL. JohnL did everything to the car that is currently done, besides the DCR oil system and crane cams. The car is great, I fixed a bunch of hack wiring, but overall, it pulls great. The confusing part is how the hell my meth kit actually worked. It has a single stage Coolingmist kit installed, meth comes on at 10 PSI when the kit is armed.

The confusing part..... the pump is under the passenger headlight, the tank is in the trunk!! How the hell is the meth getting up to the pump, to be pumped in. Its so hack! I just assumed that the pump was under the tank in the trunk, but when I pulled the carpet up today, I traced the line. It goes through a grommet in the trunk floor, then out under the car, along the brake lines, up the firewall, and then down into the headlight opening, where it goes into the pump. From here, it sprays through a short run of hose and into the PTP cold side pipe that I have.

The pumps don't work on a suction principle though, the pump should always be located beneath the level of the tank, so that gravity feeds the pump. Is it just the pressure of the meth in the tank pushing the meth through the hose, was it luck......

I can't believe it was running like this

we always recommend the tank and pump to be both in the trunk or both in the engine bay. Most likely his kit work at times, did not work at others.

Update:

I am going to go to a smaller battery (the JMB drycell) up front and then I think I can place the meth tank where the factory battery fits. This will allow me to keep the pump in the bumper, and the tank will only be about 3 feet away, and above the level of the pump.

This is great

I guess the main question for the experts... how dangerous is it to have 50/50 meth/water up front under the hood? No more dangerous than an extra fuel tank up front for a nitrous setup, right?

Thats stupid advice. It probably wasn't working. As the vendors will confirm, the meth pumps do not suck the water in, they rely on gravity to feed the fluid into the pump. It was a miracle that the pump worked at all. My new design is going to work every time, the way it should.

Build a heat shield for the tank to help shield it from some of the heat coming from the engine side.

I personally know JohnL and I can gaurantee you that it did work and that he never had an issue with it. If you have any doubts, look here.

JohnL chose very nice parts from this car, and I couldn't be more happy with it, but it says right on the cooling mist install guide:

Quote:
The pump and tank should Be mounted within a few feet of each other for best results.

and

Quote:
The pump should be below the tank if at all possible

And, if you read what the vendor said above in this post:

Quote:

I have since relocated it up under the hood, less than 2 inches from the tank, and now there will be no question that it will work flawless, every time. Its also nice because its less wire, less hose, and less things that can go wrong.

I understand the reasons behind the vender stating that the pump should be located within a certain distance to the bottle, but everything gives way to simple physics. If you install the system correcty and properly purge the system of all air, keep the bottle filled at all times, than you'll never have a problem with scavaging, there is enough of a vacume on the system to draw the liquid and since there is no way for air to get into the system unless the bottle is run empty, you would never have had a problem with his setup.

Until you run out of fluid just one time, and you have to find a way to re-prime your system

Good point though. Just have to make sure you never run out!
