I was wondering if you could make something to put in place of the glass on the sunroof for those of us trying to lose weight? I know many people have shown interest in such a product. Thanks!

"The Cobalt firmly grabs you and whisks you along your way instantly. It does so with authority and poise, but while slipping relatively unnoticed through traffic, never being violent, or dare I say it, frightening. When you ask the SRT-4 to take you somewhere fast, it punches you in the face, throws you over its shoulder, and runs, screaming, so quickly that its tires can barely keep up."
the sunroof isnt neccesarrily what adds all the weight, its the added structural support in the rest of the car for the sunroof....
That I understand, but a 20lb piece of glass over say a 3lb sheet of carbon fiber is still saving weight for those of us that have one. I also know that it will be tough to make, it has to seal against the weather like the glass does.

If you're truly trying to save as much weight as possible you'r e far better off getting another car w/o the sunroof even ever installed (and without any of the other goodies/options.) Then you can gut it to your heart's content.

its actually a good idea. replace the glass with carbon fiber. its more of a "have sun when you want it" type of thing and you still have your sunroof and your lightweight. i would go for that...
there's a vendor that makes a carbon fiber roof .... it's just laid on top of the roof & held in by glue if i remember correctly .... you could just remove the sunroof altogether and put that on top

Not really going for that idea but I guess for those going for the CF look it is cool. Just trying to shed weight from what I have, I haven't yet weighed the glass or anything like that but I know it is a chunk taken off the upper side of the car, thinking it might help handling a lil bit. This should be relatively easy to make and I am sure people would buy it, if you have the CF trunk/hood a CF sunroof section would help the look plus save weight, probably save more weight just getting rid of the glass than from the hood/trunk combined! I guess the hard part would be assuring an adequate seal to keep the rain out? Would still be nice if the sunroof was useable but then I hardly ever have opened mine, I think I only open it to wipe the tracks and such when cleaning the car, LOL!
I guess you could try and seperate the skin from the skeleton of the roof, but it's a stressed member up there so I don't think carbon fiber would like it too much.

There is a company here in MD that does carbon roof's and any other panal you could want but is a lot of money i think like $2,000 and a week of down time for a roof.
