I would still look at the UHP and MP category then. all season tires, especially HPAS ones, don't have a stiff enough sidewall to be "sporty" by any means.

Ok cool thanks a lot. I still cut a 2.1 60ft on those 205 pirelli's though, I know that's nothing to exactly brag about but I felt kinda proud haha.

Hey stow, I know EVERYONE wants to send an opinion, but I would like to throw in my 2 cents for tires. I live in Indiana and the BFG g-Force super sport A/S have done a terrific job in the light snow with better than you would expect dry performance. WAY better than the old Pirelli nero zero's. Right now I have 19k of spirited driving on them and 6/32nd still left. So, I expect close to 30k from them before replacing.

I have the g-Force KDW NT's on another set of rims for the summer and they are noisey, but good. I think I will shop for another tire, however. I have 15k of hard driving on them and around 4/32nd (maybe under) still left.

I hope this opinion helps.

Thanks for this terrific list!

Stowaway,

I just put a set of Falken Azenis RT-615s in 215/45-16 on my 05 ACR because they were supposed to be of the same height (23.6 for Falkens) as the KDW's. They do appear to be smaller despite the advertised outside diameter. I verified this by standing another stock KDW mounted on a BBS wheel next to the Falkens on BBS. I am now considering asking my tire shop to get a set of the 225/50-16 Azenis even thought the advertised height says they would be too tall. The current ones are very noticeably shorter so I have a hunch that the 225's are just about a perfect match. We all know that the published numbers are not always exact. Also, I am further encouraged by the number of revs per mile for each which are as follows...

Falken Azenis 215/45-16 - 768(revs) advertised as 23.6
Stock BFG KDW's 225/45-16 - 876(revs) advertised as 23.7
Falken Azenis 225/50-16 - 881(revs) advertised as 24.9

Although the advertised tire height says they should be the height, they are significantly smaller. I think the revs per mile stat tells the story more accurately.

What do you think? Any experience with this fitment? I am planning to use the car for AutoX and PDX events so bigger is better and trying to keep the cost down vs R888s or Advans.

Thanks

I think falken has the numbers switched on their two sizes. The 25" tire should be in the 770 range.

The only way people have successfully made a 225/50-16 fit on an acr is to space it out to clear the struts. Just make sure you're not so thick that you don't have enough clamping pressure on the lug studs (Ideally you want 8 full rotations, but so long as you are less than 5mm in spacer thickness you'll be ok).

Not much has changed in that size. The best dry grip will likely go to the Continental ContiSportContact 3, with the best daily driver 3 season UHP being the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport.

That specific one, yes. 1lapsrt has ran them on track and liked them. They aren't up with EP tires, but it is a very good MP tire.

I'm gonna order new tires tonight from tire rack.215-50-17 can't decide between the Kumho Ecsta SPT and Sumitomo HTR Z III. 28,000 on stock that could go another 5,000 or so but extremely dry rotting. $14 difference between tire isn't really important.Any info would help.

The Sumitomo is better in the dry, maybe a little more noisy, and a little more firm ride. The Kumho is likely a little better in the wet and should last a few thousand miles longer. For a commuter tire on a budget you can't go wrong with either one.

I just want to know if either of the stock tires are sufficient.
Both the Michelin and the BF-Goodrich.
Are either of these decent at all?

The KDW2 and the Michelin Pilot Sport are poor choices right now. Both are 6+ years old and have very poor wet grip compared to anything else that's come out since.

You probably bought the KDW instead of the KDW NT (New Tread, aka KDW2). BFG had two tread designs for the same compound tire.

The list hasn't been updated in a while and I purposely left out DOT r-compound tires. Nitto's true street tire offerings weren't up to other offerings on the market. Their only saving grace is they are more likely to have oddball sizes, but they also lack common sizes. Some of this has changed in the past few months with the NT05, but I still don't like any of the other offerings they have. The Invo is a joke because they, like the KDW2 and a few others, designed tires mainly for looks instead of performance. Toyo will probably be left out of the list if I get around to updating it because all of their offerings in the true street tire range are quite old in design and construction.

Speaking of a new list, do you all want it broken down by size like this, or just by performance category and let you all look up sizes? Obviously one is way easier than the other, lol. I was also considering linking to DTD or TR and pulling prices (knowing it won't be accurate over time, but would give you all an idea on relative expense between different tires) but that again is a good bit more work and I'd have to use tinyurl to generate links.
