235/40-17 - This size is sketchy, a few confirmed cases of them fitting, others saying contact in the rear on the lower spring perch. Use at own risk and don't consider it as a definite fitment on all cars. These tires are 24.3" tall or shorter, but still over 1/2" taller than stock.
Tire recommendations for the SRT-4 - Updated 10-27-2009
OK, I hope to rework the first post soon with all of the new tires. I'm not going to give the breakdown in sizes just yet but I will give you the performance categories and the top selections for what I feel can fit either the best performance in that category or the best value for the category. None of these are in any particular order, just as I see/type/remember them.

Now, given that list, and hopefully you've gone through and thought about what priorities you have for your tires (cost, wet grip, steering response, ride quality, ultimate dry grip), you have to make the final choice. Tires marked in GREEN are going to be the value leaders and likely give up some performance, both wet and dry, compared to other tires in the class. Italicised tires will generally give the best dry performance in the given class.
I know. Look when this post was made. I haven't had a chance to go back and make a complete new list. There's a lot of stuff that needs updating but I haven't had the time lately to do it.
ok, i'm still kinda new to tire sizing, but i thought that for a factory rim if you wanna go with a 215 you should drop it down to a 45 to keep as close to the same height and speedo accuracy, but there's nothing suggesting that. am i wrong or does it not really matter?
The stock 205/50-17 is 25.4" tall. 215/50-17 are 25.5" tall. No problems at all with speedometer accuracy. 215/45-17 are 24.6" tall. Also, EVERY 215/45-17 requires a 7-8" rim width, not our stock 6". A 215/50-17 can be used on a 6-8" wide wheel. Also, Dodge had a load capacity rating of 89 for the SRT-4. Most 215/45-17 tires only have an 87 rating.
you made that original post on my b-day a couple years ago!
i have been really liking my 215/50/17 Falken Ziex 912s running on an aftermarket 17" rim... i think the width is probably 7" but im not positive as they were free, so i didn't ask many questions.
I just need to find time. I have tons of crap going on at work.
And honestly I'm waiting for the next batch of tires (RE-11, RS-3, AD08) to hit the streets in March to get a feel for it. If they are what I think they will be I'll be removing some tires from some of the categories.
Ok, well good thing I didn't buy new tires yesterday then! Well, I went to the local shop and pretty much said I'm looking for something sporty but not pricey, it doesn't need to be the sweetest thing since sliced bread since I'll have slicks for the track, but I want something other than my pirelli all-seasons. He suggested cooper zeon zpt's, they're like $98/each installed and whatnot. Any opinion on them? The other suggestion he had was yokohama s-drive's which were a little more.
The ZPT is only rated to 130mph and aren't going to be great for overall performance. Do you NEED an all-season tire? I don't think so because the s-drive is only a 3 season tire and as such it will deliver better dry performance.
No I've got my honda for the winter. I only got those because at the time there was like a sudden snow storm and I was like F this, my pretty much bald summer tires can't take it. So I slid into a belle tire and it was either get rims and cheap snow tires or get the pirelli's for the factory ones. In hindsight, I should've gotten the rims haha. I've got some alignment issue though and since the outside of one of them is worn almost all the way down while the inside is like brand new, I figured with summer around the corner, new tires and an alignment would be nice. I really don't plan on going over 130 with whatever tires I get, I just want something kinda sporty for the street. Most if not all of my racing will be at the track, my street racing days are done.
