So, a friend of mine for his truck found a place around my parts that will powder coat rims for $35 a wheel. His wheels looked flawless. They actually looked shinier than my other buddy who just bought black 22's for his Tahoe.
Anyways, I was thinking about powder coating my stock rims black. I actually like the look of the stock rims. Now, I made a picture to give me an idea of what it might look like. Keep in mind I did this in paintbrush and I am in no way, shape, or form good at computer graphics.
I just wanted to get an overall opinion of what people would think. I know to each his own, but I like to hear from you guys.
It'll look good for sure. I just spray bombed mine because I use them for winter only and they look real good for 12 bucks. P-coating is very nice if you're running these all the time. I say do it!
Thanks man! I really think I am leaning that way. To be honest, I used to never be too much of a black rim fan, however, they have really grown on me over the last year or so. Even before I had the SRT.
I hear powdercoating weakens your rim. I saw on some other forum where a 350z got his wheels powder coated and they broke on him while he was on the road. I would probably just do them myself to be safe. Just my .02 cents though.. it looks good by the way if you decide to go this route
Really. Thats an interesting thing. I haven't heard that. When you say do it myself what do you mean? With some kind of paint?
ya pretty much, sand down your rims and then paint them with wheel spray.. It takes time if you're patient and have the time to do it. There's a how to somewhere here on the forum. A lot of people opt to coloring their rims... it's pretty popular with the srt rims.
You know I just found that How To section for painting your rims. Honestly, not a bad idea. Could save me some money for other cool things and could come out looking good. Not to mention the weak rim issue if that ever came into play.
Ya, I could see how it is popular. Cause really, I think for a stock rim they look great on the car.
absolutley, it probably will save you some cash... and you can have it come out however you want without having to worry about them messing it up. Ya it is a pretty nice rim for a stock one. GL with whatever you decide on man
Well my rim painting is going interesting to say the least. I did all the prep work/sanding. I tried one rim with a primer. For some reason it just didn't look shiny or good. So, I bought some stripper and got the paint off of it. That rim will look like shit at the end I'm sure. The next rim I just sprayed with the paint and it looked alot better. I also cleared it. My only problem is it appears very blotchy to me. One area looks shiny and awesome and another area looks dull. The can says it can take up to 7 days for everything to cure. I am hoping that is the case and that it will all come together then.
Well, this has surely been a learning experience. I can say that. lol
what might also look good is do the face black like u had on ur beautiful paintbrush pic and then go to your local dealer and get some touch up paint in the spray can and paint the inside white to match the car!
