Default sawzall fun and fender liners? offsets? fat tires? help?

seeing these nasty track-only 285-wide track setups has me inspired. which might be a bad thing, of course.....

i can recite the wheel and tire tech thread like boldface at this point.... i know 17x8+35, 245/40/17.....but these assume no fender modification, and an offset to keep the tire between the fender and struts.

anyways, a few questions, maybe for 1lapsrt and others

1) what would be the widest tire i could stick under the srt assuming....

a)i used some of those riveted/screw-on plastic fender extenders/flares, and played happy-fun time with a sawzall on the metal fender....(think the blue datsun from wangan midnight has kinda what i'm thinking of....so do some mudding jeeps, and 1lapsrt's car, of course)

b)i used a lower offset to push the rubber and rim more toward the outside to avoid conflict with suspension components(stock struts, for now)

c)i would rather not f*ck with ridiculous camber settings to achieve this.

d)no spacers, no trick cnc lathed/machined hubs(which are effing pwnage, i'll admit, just too expensive for a farm boy)

e) this car isn't for picking up chicks. fast and fugly is fine by me.

EDIT:
Drag Wheels. Extreme Alloys. | DR-31 LIMITED EDITION (17x9 / 18x9) <- seems drag makes a 17x9 for our pattern that has decent offset.

You want to know about permanently modifying the vehicle before you're even on coilovers? That doesn't sound like a good idea. Coilovers alone will make the car do things you didn't think was possible, road racing, and 1/4 mile. Adding more tire to the car will certainly improve, but the benefits of coilovers are hard to believe until you actually drive a car with some. I however made the mistake of buying coilovers before I got better than the car, know what I mean?

Learn the car's limits and be a better driver. When you can't get any better, then start modding the car. If I drove 1LapSRT's car and he drove mine, he'd get a better time in my car then me in his built race car.

I'd love to be able to run a 255 tire all around.

Edit: I hope I don't sound like a dick, cuz i'm not trying to. Just stating the truth. What would you like to accomplish with your srt? Do you wish to get into racing?

you're not sounding like a dick at all man, thanks for the advice. i know what coils add more or less, changed a stock suspension integra over to buddy club n+ coils..stock rims, whatever tires were on it...thing would loosen fillings and compress discs in your spine....although i know a usdm coil will generally exercise lower spring rates/damping rates since the roads are generally less smooth in the us.

i've been driving the srt for a year, the stockers look bent and the tires are a couple thousand from going. riken raptors, if that means anything. would rather not go through different sets of rims/tire sizes on the way, so i figured why not fit the widest i can fit? would it be better to get coils first? sure, could fit even wider then, and for all the reasons you stated. the coils aren't bugging me yet, maybe they should. the lack of bite however, is immediately apparent.

i do a little bit of everything with it, more autocross than anything. however, i could take the car out to an autocross/track every other weekend, but with narrow driving windows (12 minutes over a day, if i'm lucky) i'm not going to figure it out as much as i have in 22,000 miles. developmentally i should always be able to get slightly faster every time even if i left the thing stock for the rest of my life.....but i've got too much engineer and too much redneck in me......there has to be more.

We can guess all we want but the truth is, you won't know until you physically do it. Too many variables.

Your best option is to buy a pair of the flares and temporarily attach them to the panels and then take measurements. Simple math will allow you to determine your options for wheel and tires sizes.

Wow man. Stock wheels and tires? Find some cheap 17x8s. I was like WTF so much more traction (when i was stage 0 and stock) when i went to a 225/4517 on my flik 17x8 rims. Now that I"m stage 3, it feels like I'm on stock rims again. I bet going from 225 to 245 would help a lot.
Wait whaat!? Usdm makes a coilover? eibach? I heard those weren't that great.
