Hence the term "three season tire".

Cool thread. I just got a set of MB Motoring 16s with Michelin Alpin PA2 tires. Getting put on by discount tire as I type this, will be done before end of work today. If anyone wants I can post some pics when I get a chance.

http:www.discounttiredirect.com sells generic 15'' steelies that fit our car.

Steelies here: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...&rw=6&bp=5-100

Let there be no doubt that this setup fits. The proof is in the pics...

These fit on with ample space between the rim and the caliper. No rubbing no need for spacers.
I ended up with the Hankook 401's, Discount tire direct was out of the 404's. 401's have a similar tread pattern as the 404's but the sidewalls are curved for better handling on turns. At 424 for a set of 4 steelies with tires you just cant go wrong. Be sure to pick these up at www.discounttiredirect.com while they still have stock!

I bought steelies from a vw dealership that came off of a new beetle. They were dealer take offs so i got all 4 for $140. They are 16 x 6 1/2 with a 42 mm offset. They clear the front caliper by almost 2 inches. I then mounted cooper winter tires 205/55/16 and they are awesome in the snow.

I got the same rims, and yes they fit, but they are cutting it close. The problem I have with them is that my lugnuts can't tighten down all the way - the thread is hitting the end of the nuts. So I got some thin spacers anyway, to afford more clearance and to make sure the lugnuts are actually tight, and not just bottoming out. I'm guessing you didn't have this issue?

no, i used the stock lug nuts and I was able to tighten them down fine. I just whipped out my trusty torque wrench and went to town on them. The stock lug nuts are kinda tapered at the end that recieves the stud. Thats is they are shaped like this:

\ /

This tapered part fit slightly into the existing holes on rim, allowing me to tighten them down to 100ft/lbs securely. And yes the fit is close, but adequate.
