Hey all.... I just ordered some 215/45-17's NEXEN N3000 tires off of E-bay, Anyone try these yet? The price can't be beat @ $263 shipped..... (W) speed rated, 360 wear rating, AA traction, Temp A.
I know they're a little smaller in diameter than the 205/50-17 stockers...but they're also alot cheaper.
This is the description of the Nexen N3000 line of tires from their website...... You gotta love the language barrier.
Dynamic “V”-shape aqua pattern design. The drainage
performance has been maximized and driving
comfortableness has been strengthened. In addition, the
riding comfort is improved by reducing the noise and
vibration with a new dynamic pattern and sidewall design
contributes not only the performance but also styling in
highest efficiency.
The improvement of driving comfortableness. The wider
tread block in the center of tire makes handling and
driving comfortableness satisfied and also, improves the
comfortableness remarkably at high speed and increases
impact absorption during driving at the rough road.
The highest turning ability at high speed. The wider block
design at shoulder part increases the strength of block and
is superior to turning ability and elusion of unpredictable
situation by raising the resistance to crosswise force.
You Have to love tires.... that offer "Driving Comfortableness"
I just got mine yesterday and put them on today. I was running Kumho Ecsta ASX tires, and my first impression with the Nexen tires is that they are a lot quieter than the Kumhos. They also seem to roll slightly smoother, with no noticeable vibration. I bought my Nexen tires off ebay also, and paid $280 shipped for all 4 tires. These tires are a steal for the price.

Please contribute this to the Tire Review sticky thread.
These 215/45-17 Nexen 3000's WILL NOT fit on the stock 17x6" Rims. The tire shop couldn't get them to hold a bead. I had to order some 17x7" Enkei's to make them work.
I've put about 15,000 miles on these Ebay tires now, and can honestly say that they are just average.
Let me start by saying that from the beginning I had a problem, 1 of the 4 tires I was shipped had a broken internal cord. Of course I didn't find this out until I had the tire mounted and balanced and had driven it a couple days. I had a really bad vibration from the front end, and thought the tire shop had F'd up and balanced the tire and rim incorrectly.
After returning to the tire shop with the suspect tire and rim, they showed me the uneven rotation of the tire on the balance machine (I don't know why they didn't pick this up on the initial balancing) after seeing this they explained that the tire had a broken cord.
So after paying to get a tire mounted balanced, and then removed I then had to pay to ship it back to the Ebay dickhead. I had to order a fifth tire from the ebay guy before I shipped the bad one back in order to minimize the downtime on my car. Needless to say this wasn't a pleasant buying experience. I really wish I had just bought from the Tire Rack. After it was all said and done I paid more for these Nexens than I would've for the Kumho Exsta SPT's that I was considering from the rack.
Anyway on to the review.... I have to mention that I went from the stock 6" rims and stock Mich pilots to some 17x7 Enkei's with 215/45-17 Nexens. On my 2003 W/O Limited Slip I thought the Mich Pilots were pretty decent tires, unfortunately I didn't think they were $180 ea. decent. So I figured I'd cheap out and try something different. Compared to the 205/ stockers, I'd say that the 215/ Nexens offer similar dry grip, maybe slightly less dry launching traction. The wet traction is much better than the michelins, BUT the Hydroplane resistance is terrible. A light rain launch on the Michelins would result in fruitless wheel spin, these nexens actually seem to grab.
BUT, BUT, BUT, be very careful driving through puddles, these NEXENS SUCK for Hydro plane resistance.... The Michelins were about average for Hydro plane resistance, the Nexens are border line dangerous.
The only thing I'm really happy about is the wear, so far I've put 15,000 miles and still have more than half the tread left. The Stock Michelins were almost done by 15,000.
In summation I would say that If you really are looking to save some money, don't care about hydro plane resisitance, and care more about tire wear than performance..then you might want to consider these tires. I however won't buy these again, In fact I can't wait for these to wear out so I can try something else.
I hope this helps.

glad someone else sees that these aren't good tires. You really get what you pay for with tires 90% of the time, and you can't go with ebay brand tires (ok, not really, but they aren't sold in retail chains or good mail-order businesses).
i run a tire shop and i bought then nexens just because my cost on them was dirt cheap, i have the 215/45r17 and i have no problem mounting them and seating the beads, i used them at the track 2 times this year, and w/out a burnout i hit a 2.3 60 ft time and with a burnout i hit a 2.09 60 ft. i love them expecially for the price, cant beat em, they are better then $200 continentals that i had on the car before,

That really pisses me off, everything I read here said that the 215/45-17 would work on the 6" rim. Although Tire Rack only recommends a max 205 /50-17 on a 6", I figured they could get the tires to fit. The tire shop insisted that the tires wouldn't bead. At that point I figured I was just stuck and had to purchase new rims in order for the tires to work.
Like I said these tires do seem to grip about as well as the Mich. Pilot sports in the dry, but the Hydro resistance in my opinion sucks.

It does fit. It's just not safe. I had 215/50/17's on my stockers. 215's will fit. However, the 45 series tire will not be able to support the load bearing under hard cornering or evasive maneuver.
yea they told you that they wouldnt fit because they are a good company. a good tire shop will not sell you a wrong size for the car........i know at our company we will turn down the buisness rather than put the wrong size tire on, because if somthing happens with those tires, then that establishment (sp) is responsible for that car. but the reason that i put the 214/45R17 on my car was because i could and i knew they would work on the stock wheels, just my .02
It still makes me sick that even horseshit cars like the scion TC come with 7" wide wheels stock. This is one area of the SRT4 that I really wished DCX would've spent another 5 bucks for a wider casting. I mean really 220WHP+ on a 6" rim is just stupid.
