So what's the deal some people are making about my tires? Too big or too small? [...] I had low profiles on my last car, Nitto Neo-gens, and the things were done at just 15K. [...] Anyways, I was a little worried about the wheels affecting performance, but really, I haven't noticed any difference at all.
I only said to get taller tires if you don't like people bugging you about the gap. lol There are low profile tires that last a long time, but most of them don't perform well. And about the performance on 18's... you might not notice the difference driving on your own, but if you race against a stock SRT-4, you'll see a BIG difference. But like you said, your car is just for daily driving and not autocross, road, or drag racing, so don't worry that you lost some performance.
I'll try to get some new pics up soon...And I think I have the biggest tire possible for stock suspension, anything bigger would hit my struts...But as far as performance goes, my car isn't stock, so racing a stock SRT-4 with stock rims vs. my car with 18s, I still wouldn't lose. Not with my car having around 290-300hp. Been there, done that...And last I heard, the stock rims on the SRT-4 weren't that light. I had 'em on my old Neon SXT. The ones I have now are 19 lbs per wheel, which I didn't think was bad at all for an 18" rim.
A 215/40 is too short. That coupled with the fact that you aren't dropped makes the gap more unsightly and makes the tires look more like 35 series tires.
Sorry man, it's all I can do on stock suspension. Like I said, anything bigger would rub the struts. I know everyone's raggin' on it now, but I'll have it lowered eventually. Just give me some time! I'm probably one of the youngest guys with a SRT, so with only working part-time and going to school, my money is tight.
Thanks for the great comments guys! So a 225/40 would have fit? I didn't know that. I was looking at 'em the other day to see how much clearance I had and I literally can't fit the end of my pinky finger between the tire and the strut. I would've thought anything bigger would rub. Guess I'm wrong though. Anyways, yeah I think I'll be doing the Mopar Stage 1 springs here in about another month. I'll get ya some pics to compare the drop.
And does anyone know what the stock SRT-4 wheels weigh? I saw some guy post on another thread and he thinks they're something like 24.5 lbs a piece but that seemed a little heavy to me. Idk though, I couldn't find the weight listed anywhere else. I did find out the my old rims, 17" Motegi Mr7s, were 24 lbs a piece, and the 18" rims I have now are only 19.2 lbs a piece. But I haven't really got on it from a stop yet to compare since I've put the new wheels and tires on. Trying not to wear out those $616 tires yet lol
