Since I cant put those words into the search. Im looking at the BFG KDW i know the II's are more of a drag radial which is why im skeptical on purchasing those because of the chance of getting caught in the rain, unless its not really that big of a deal. So in your guys' opinion are the KDW my best option?
i never had a problem with the KDW 2's in the rain... in fact, they are perfect rain/dry traction tires but there are plenty other brands that are as good if not better for a better price.. just do some research on them on like tirerack.com
because he already had the tires and doesn't want to buy something else before his current tires wear out?
or he HAD the KDW2 and now has a better cheaper tire.
The KDW2 is NOT a drag radial. It shares a somewhat similar tread design to a model of drag radial BFG makes, but they are two completely different tires.
In my opinion the BFG KDW NT (KDW 2) is a crappy tire that is bought more for looks than anything else. I had better wet traction with half worn Falken Azenis RT-615s (which are supposed to be HORRIBLE in the wet) than I did with barely worn KDW 2. Dry traction was never a problem, but they made tons of noise and even with a perfect balance caused vibrations through the steering wheel due to the tread design. Also, the tire dates back 6 years, which is HUGE when it comes to tire designs these days. Construction and compounds make tires ride better, grip better, have lower rolling resistance, and last longer.
KDW 2's are FTL. Don't get them. I can not wait until mine are bald so I can get different tires. They absolutely suck in the rain. If there is even a slight angle on the road at a red light, when I start going my tires will spin and I'll slide down the hill.
as said above, if your looking for a street tire that resebles a drag radial and performs well go with the falken azenis. i have ad no problems with them on mine, in heavy, on the highway. occasionally you feel a little "hydroplane" if you want to call it that it lasts for half a second.
I never liked the KDW II's, especially living in Ohio were we have extreme winters, i never understood why dodge put a 3 season tire on a car that will sell in northern america and canada... I think its because they realized they goofed when giving us a 6" wide tire with 230+ ft lbs of torque, so to make up for their mistake they had to give us one of the stickiest street tires available to make it drivable... just my 2 cents, im sure thats not the reason but i like to overthink things
I have the KDW 2's & they are much better than the crapo michelins that were on there. I went with a slightly larger size to help with traction so, I get a little bit of roll going into the corners & they scrub on hard corners. It rains all the time here & I like how you can drive in the ruts without hydroplaning. I think when I buy my next set though I might check out the Azenis.
Bad points on the KDW's are: expensive, noisy (think truck tire)
Good points: hook well, predictable in corners, excellent wet, wider foot print than other tires of the same size, factory equipped on '04-'05
They are good tires but, as stated above you can probably find a better tire for the money. Just need to do some research.
I guess I like the KDW2s since I don't ever drive in the rain with the car.
Personally I've found them to be a nice grippy tire and held up very well at a road course day.
I'd love to try a set of the KD's though... THOSE would be absolutely horrid in the rain
actually, they are not the best option out right now. What size do you need? That there can throw out 90% of the top level tires depending on what size you want/need to run.
i recomend the falkens to anyone that will listen, i have yet to find something bad about them. i went from being able to break the tires loose in a 3rd gear (Hankook K106) to being able to power all the way through second with more torque steer then i know what to do with. also with a launch on the street i usually spin first and immediately hook in second the whole way through. I used to have a different set of falkens on a different vehicle (Falken 912 on an awd eagle talon) they were very loud at highway speed, something i dont notice with the azenis.
also the falkens can be found for around $105-120 depending on size and where you shop. if i remember right the BFGs are in the $130 range.
Mine are 225/45/17 and i paid $104 through my work but Home - Discount Tire Direct was selling them for $115 shipped
