215 vs 205
Ok, so I read the tire guide. I understand I can put a 215/50/17 on my stock rim. What I didn't see (or notice anyways) is this.........
Is there really a benefit of running a 215 over a 205? I understand it is a "wider" tire, but is there that much more width to even make a difference?
Cause maybe I am missing the point, but from what I understand it isn't very much wider or taller.

Although the tire is physically wider, the difference is minimal at best.
But look at it from this perspective-their cheaper than 205's, and have extra sidewall for a little more comfort, why not go with 215's?

Lol, ya, well my fender clearance is pushing it already with the stock 205. So maybe I should stick with the stock size.
And ya, I did notice the 215s were cheaper. I don't know why but I found that odd.
Hmmmm........decisions, decisions. Thanks guys.

dude with 215 you are making your sidewall weaker and degrading your handling, i wish i just stayed with good old 205s

i run 215's all day with re-inforced sidewall and when you bring the air pressure down. these things really stick.

Good Lord this topic could be debated for a long ass time. Excluding all suspension factors, I'm not sure how much an extra 10mm is going to do for traction. My buddy runs the General Exclaim UHPs and loves them. The sidewall is pretty damn soft though, as mentioned. Also, I think the UHPs only come with a 45 sidewall. You're going to want to 215/50/17, even though there aren't many selections in that size.

Ya I figured it all boils down to opinions. But I thought I would ask. I appreciate the feedback guys. I'm really leaning on just heading back to stock size.

was told by a tirerack tech that putting a 215 on a stock wheel would not be wise due to you "pinching" the tire to get it to fit on the stock wheel, this in turn would cause the middle of the tire to bulge in the end giving you less traction because the tire is not completely meeting with the pavement. He said it is possible though. Thats what I was told anyway

if you're talking 215/45-17, they are right. 215/50 -17 is fine.
