Default e1 turbo ????

with the e1 are you forced to use a aftermarket wastegate??? i just put mine on and its seems to bleed off around 10psi?? there is no shaft play and all the correct vac. lines are hooked up . please let me know if you think it could be because of the wastegate???

Im 80% sure that is the problem.

Just dont mess with anything on the car until you get your new wga. Remember that you will have to re-wire the boost selenoid lines soo the wga can control the boost and not the pcm.

What type of wga did u get?

If you are running the stock lines then that will cause it to run lower. The computer is seeing more air and it is compensating for that.

Stupid question, but how does the computer see more air? We don't have a MAF? all it knows is how much pressure it is seeing. So how much boost you are getting.

I would assume that the computer can not tell the difference between a 50 trim flowing 15 psi and a stock turbo flowing 15 psi. 15 psi is 15 psi.

Now if we had a MAF sensor then I could see the computer reading how much air is flowing.

If there is a good explaination on the forums on this, please let me know. I don't like being wrong and I do like learning new things.

But the part that I posted up above is my current understanding of how the car works and the PCM reads the sensors. If this is inaccurate or wrong, please let me know so I can improve my knowledge.

You are correct but if the car is sensoring more air than usual than it will lower the boost. That is part of the reason why it varies so much.

I think the only way the car can sense how much air is flowing would be based on calculations based on IAT, TIP, and MAP sensors. How cold is the air coming into the engine, how much boost is running, Boost x air temp = calculated airflow. That is the only way that the car can determine that with the air temp cooler the car will make more power due to more oxygen in it than when the air is hotter and the oxygen is less condensed.
