Default For those of you running Bi-Xenon projectors..

I'm not sure what the hell I am supposed to do about these solenoids. The way that I had them hooked up, when I would flip the switch to activate the high beams, the solenoids would power up, but the ballasts would shut off, turning off my bulbs. I'm not sure where to go from here. On theretrofitsource.com forums, I am told to use diode part number: 1N5404 from radioshack. Then a couple posts below that, I am told to use 1N4001. The 1N5404 didn't exist when I went there, so I used the 1N4001...It's a 50V/1A diode. I followed the wiring diagram on there and I still can't seem to get this right. I am using the wiring harness that I bought from TRS. Can someone tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong here? I can take pics if needed.

Direct from Matt@TRS, and this did work...and they did have the diode. Maybe look online @radioshack too...

Nick
Easy fix, sounds like the diode needs to be re-installed. Maybe the harness manufacture put it in backwards in the first place (or atleast thats what it sounds like)

but yeah I guarantee its the diode.

You need to re-install it between the white and blue wire that goes to the 9007 socket. Make sure the current flows from the blue wire into the white wire (but not the other way around) - a diode is like a one way road. The stripe should be closer to the white wire.

If you cant reuse the original one, you can easily pick up another diode at a radio shack store for 1-2 bucks. You need a "1N5404" diode.

Hope that helps, sorry bout the trouble Nick.

Matt @ RS

So basically your low beams worked fine? Then when the high beams were turned on the ballast shut off, but the solenoids turned on? My first harness i bought from Matt was totally screwed up, has yours always acted weird or did it just start acting up? If anything take a pic of the harness and circuit board if you have opened it up.

The harness has worked fine. I just have never had to hook it up using the high beams/solenoids. I was lazy and only used the low beams, but you are correct. Turn on the high beams and the low beams power shuts off, which in this case would be the ballasts.

Ok, I looked up radioshack's website. Turns out they didn't have the diode at my local radioshack, so I will have to drive a little ways to get it. My problem lies within the diode itself, that's gotta be it. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm having a somewhat similar problem with my harness from Matt over at rfs.com. The harness i got from rfs.com was acting strange, no matter which way i flip flopped the wires in the harness for the shutters from the bixenon motor, the shutters would always be open and i would have to hold my high beam with out clicking it to get the shutter to close. Also when i clicked my high beams everything would just shut off completely. Any help would be great.

Nope, high beam fuse didnt blow. Matt just e mailed me and told me to swap around the pins inside the blue 9007 connector that came on the harness and see what i get. So i guess i'll try that next.

Today i tried flip flopping the 2 outer pins on the 9007 harness provided by Matt and i got absolutely nothing. So i guess i will have to e mail him about sending me a new harness.

I spent an entire weekend trying to figure out what in the hell I was doing wrong with this harness. After going off of the wiring diagram, I am supposed to put a diode wrapped around the high and low beam wires, with the stripe on the diode facing the low beam...Well, when I connect the solenoid wires and try to turn on the headlights, the low beams turn on fine, but when I try to active the high beams/solenoids, the lights shut off and the solenoids activate(this is when the high beams are supposed to come on). I don't know what to do. I am about to just build my own harness for it and say fuck it.

Yeah if this harness doesnt come fixed when i get a new one. I am just gonna run my bixenon E55's straight off of my ballasts and just make a switch for the shutters. Getting frustrating. You pay for a harness and expect it to be 100%

The quality of the harness is top notch. But how do you get wires backwards, lol? It's like they spent more time getting everything to look professional and forgot what goes where.

I totally agree. I'll give the new harness that Matt sends a shot and if it doesnt work. I'm running my own switch.
