If you want the truth, it was by accident. Here's how it came about.
1st I had put on a vinyl sticker over the tail light. It was white, so when you stepped on the light mopar pretty much disappeared. To fix that I decided rather than get new vinyl, I would paint INSIDE the lense black so the light wouldn't shine through. Worked great!
2nd I screwed up the third brake light that I painted on my SRT, so I decided to rob my DD neon. I took the white vinyl sticker off the lense (since the SRT is O.B., then was like D@MN! I forgot I had painted the back, now I had a red mopar with black showing through from the inside.
3rd I decided to try a light coat of O.B. over the whole lense, and it worked. I actually ended up using 2 coats O.B. plus a couple coats clear coat.
So long story short.
1. Paint inside lense black, with out painting what you want to show through.(keep in mind on inside it need to be backwards to show correct on outside. The original vinyl overlay helped here. I just painted behind the vinyl, leaving the parts to show through unpainted.)
2. Paint outside lense to color match your car. (would recomend light coats) also no primer. (the primer will not let the light shine through..........Another mistake I discovered on the other lense.)
*** Also I would recommend painting inside / outside instead of outside /outside - black 1st, then color over black. That is how I screwed up my SRT lense. I had originally painted outside lense black, with mopar showing. Couple weeks later, when I color matched over the black, the paint "alligatored" on me. (sorry I don't know the techical term for that)
