Why dont you get inspection before installing them. I cant say that I know anyone in MA with them installed, but I know in Jersey we have sold a lot there and nobody has told us of any problems. Same thing in VA too.
Hope that helps. You might check the state code for brake lights. Here in AZ it is 500 ft and you can see that no problem.
