Default Question for Hak

Going to start your Fog light relay mod today, but I have a couple questions.

1. I bought the 5 post relay despite what another poster said about not needing the fifth post. However, the fifth post is marked 87. There are two 87 posts on the relay. Can I use both posts (marked 87) instead of how the diagram (1st post in this topic) shows.

2. The 85 post is labeled "Input Signal." This post is connected to the positive power signal. Is the positive power signal "striped" or "non-striped?"

3. For those of you that have done this mod, where did you ground the relay?

Thats it. Thanks.

-Michael

Answers:

1. Using a 5 prong relay is ok. I use them because that is what I get from supply and have always used. Disregard the middle prong that is labeled "87a". Look close, it will say 87a on it. Again, disregard that prong.

2. 85 is input. I can't remember what wire colors were but i'll look at it when I get home unless someone else chimes in. If your connected to power then your ok.

3. ALWAYS use a new chassis ground and no greater than 12".

Replies on answers...

1. Yeah I saw that 87 "a" and I was hoping wouldn't make a difference. No biggie just one more splice.

2. Sorry I get kind of antsy. It's the striped wire. And the color for the fog light is light blue (drivers side). It maybe the same for the pass. side too. I'll have to do that one tomorrow.

3. I'm not an electrical wizard such as yourself so...why is it not good to share grounds. (I didn't share by the way, I made a new one.)

-Michael

ps - Finished the drivers side and it works great. I'll do the other side tomorrow when I can get under the car easier.

No need to get under the car my man. Just simply pop out that passenger side headlight and you can access both the fog wires and the bumper light all in one shot

The reason why you don't really ever want to run multiple grounds together is basically to keep out any interferance one might have and to also isolate your components. Having things on their own path sure helps take guesswork out of trouble shooting should anything ever happen to your electrical system or you need to trace back wires, etc. I was always taught to never run grounds from the same source and have just always followed that rule of thumb from installing audio/video and just moved what I learned over into things like this.

Just so your aware, not sure if you were, but the stock headlight cant be opened so you'll need a set of aftermarket replacements to do any visual mods like that to the headlights for the 2003+ Neon.

I've never painted just that part and left everything alone. I usually scrap most of the guts inside the headlight. The only thing left "stock" on mine are the outer clear lens.
