I've read a number of posts on this mod, and there are some posts about needles for gauges being off afterwards (one was 20 degrees off, etc).
Can this happen if you just switch out the bulbs on the instrument panel? I've read the service manual and it says to keep the entire instrument cluster unit upright when you remove it, but nothing else. I don't want to attempt this if it's going to screw up my gauges in the end or have them be off, even a tiny bit.
There should be no reason for your needles to be off. When you replace the bulbs you take off the A-pillars and the top dash pad. Then pull down on the instrument cluster bezel below the gauges. You'll find four phillips head screws holding the cluster in. Remove these and pull the cluster out. Flip it over, change the bulbs (if you have an 03/04, solder if you have an 05) and put it back. Theres no reason to take the needles off, or even the plastic on the front of the cluster.
Hey lil one.... I"m sure there's nothing wrong with it... But if I swapped my light sockets out with one from an 03/04 would that hurt anything? Mine being an 05.... As long as they are the same I don't see any problems with it right?
I don't know yet..... Wanted to ask before I gave it a shot. You seem fairly familiar in and out with the SRT so figured I'd ask. And I don't see any reason to solder either. I might buy an elcheapo stocker SXT cluster to yank the bulb holders outta it.
If they fit in the holes and the contacts will mate up just the same as in your cluster, then there is no reason they shouldn't work. If the contacts are different then that is a whole new ballgame. I've never done an 05 cluster, nor had one out so I can't say for sure. Kinda stupid they added the whole soldering thing in just that one year really. Meh.
