So I've been wanting to do another retro for quite some time no. My first just isn't cutting it with me anymore, and after seeing many of them on this site I just can't take it anymore.
So my idea is to use the stock headlight/Depo with TL projectors. I plan for using the gatling shroud and possibly vacuum form too. What I would like to know is if anyone has any suggestions/ advise for your fellow retrofiter.
Some other quick questions too, would it be possible to fit a small HID projector in the turn signal spot (I've seen a picture of someone doing this on this forum but haven not found it again). Also will the lense from the DEPO headlight fit the stock OEM housing? Thanks for your time.
You can fit a blazer projector or a bosch mini (I think thats the name) in the turn signal spot. However I can promise you it isnt going to do you really any good. Theres no benefit of it besides looks.
Not sure about the depo lens fitting. Your best bet is to just buy a new set of depos and work with those. THis way theres no guessing.
Fyi tls are great projectors. Im using them on a retro on my caliber srt-4. Im hoping to finish them by this weekend.
unless you're using a single xenon projector, i wouldn't worry about using a projector for the turn sigs. the guy who was doing that was going to use it as a halogen highbeam. i would image, length wise, there would be issues.
be very careful w/ the vacuforming. for some reason lately every sheet of acrylic i've heated have bubbled up, and the only fix for that would be bondo (i hate sanding).
Ya as far as a second projector I've decided against it. I may try a turnsignal projector like this > LittoDeviL Design Group - 2006 Infiniti G35 Sedan Quad HID Projector, LED Projector Turn Signal (for some reason I can't insert a hyperlink?). With the housing I'm probably going to stick with OEM parts, that way there is no question about quality and fit. I just bought the TL's today hopefully everything goes will on that end.
^^^ That seems like massive overkill to me. But I'm sure it would look nice.
Which part, the heat sinks or the whole thing in genrel, cuz I don't think I would go quite that far with the heat sinks,, I just thing the projector lens looks sick in the turn housing.
Actually those heatsinks are totally needed when using those high powered led's. Their #1 enemy is heat. Remember in a housing, there's little to no airflow & they can produce a lot of heat & die if you don't heatsink them correctly.

I've been trying to research the cooling aspect of the led, I'm thinking of doing someting that it would be hard to mount all of them to a single heatsink, do you think a fan (like one in a computer) blowing or pulling air across the heat slug on them would work. The following link has diagrams LUXEON K2 and LUXEON K2 with TFFC LEDs :: High Power LEDs
Why go with hi power leds? Do you just want the look of leds, or are you trying to make led flashlights? Personally I would just use some superflux or a similar led.
Ok so I just go my gatling shrouds like 5 mins ago. For them to fit on the TL projector do I need to cut the inside part that clamps on the projector? I will be posting pictures when I'm a little further in my progress.
You will probably have to cut the bottom to clear the selenoid. Thats the bad part about tls is the damn selenoid is in the way. Take some pics and we can better help you. ARe the gatling guns 2.5" or 3"? If they are 2.5" they will need to be opened up a little.

once he cuts away the inner portion of the shroud, it'll be 3"
