I recognized that shitty planter instantly.

I feel honored to be the bad example.

I agree projectors would be far better. You are preaching to the choir on this one. In fact that is how I came upon this thread. With that being said, the cheap HID's in the stock housings are not that bad.

I'm not preaching to anyone. But yes Neon owners are often cheap, so its pointless to argue justifying the funds to do a retro.

I think the pics speak for themselves on wether or not they are worth it.

I bought the kit before any projector retrofits were available. At the time, the consensus was that the headlight housing was impossible to separate from the lens without damaging it.

Now that they are readily available, is it possible to buy just the projector and housing sans bulb/ignitor/ballast and use the existing setup?

I understand your position. This thread is not a slap "at you" persay, but more importantly used for visual purpouses to let people truelly get an idea of the two types HID lighting and the differences between them. I just want you to know that.

Having said that, I understand your position and why you bought a kit. You have some options now but there are some setbacks as with anything in life. The first thing.....your 9007 kit bulbs can't be used for a retro. Your ballasts however "might" be able to be reused if they share the same connector that is used on a OE HID projector (P32D). They need to have the same plug and you can reuse them with OE D2S bulbs/projector.

I am not taking any of this as a negative towards me. I've had my car long enough to remember the days before stage 1 was even available. If I cannot come up with a plug and play solution using the existing hardware I have, I'll start fresh and sell the kit to someone who cares as much about it as I once did. There is no way I have time to make a custom housing however, so is there anywhere I can buy some to work with the new projectors?

FWIW, I remember seeing for sale on some website an adapter that connects a P32d bulb to the Chinese-style male and female connectors found on cheap HID ballasts.

The info in this thread is quite useful. I dont mean to hijack this thread but I have an Acura 3.2TL-S and the HID system is out. The dealer wants quite a bit of money to replace the ballasts, etc. Since my car is set up for an HID system, were I to buy an aftermarket kit such as McCullough or Phillips using the same bulbs as the ones currently in my car (D2R) will I notice the same problems with glare and light spatter that you have described. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

I don't deal with anything aftermarket for HID. However I do know where to get OEM grade components for a fraction of the cost you'd pay at the stealerships.

HiDPlanet.com :: Index you can go there and buy the same exact ballast you have used from members of the forum. #1 HID resource on the net

or HID Retrofit Parts Projectors Ballasts D2S Bulbs for new OEM ballasts

You won't have any issues with glare because your headlights reflector was designed for D2R HID use. It does not matter what brand of OEM ballast you get either. All of them will connect to a P32d base, which is what D2R and D2S bulbs are.

So if I were to use a 2006 TSX system... Ballast, igniters and bulbs.... Would that work?

what about using the cheaper hid kits in the neon headlights and then putting eyelids across the headlight to cut off the beam after a certain height?
