Default ND4SPD's Ebay Halo Projector Retro

Well, I've been messing with this off & on for a few weeks & I'm at a point where I thought I'd share some pics. This is my 1st retro so I've been doing lots of measurements, playing with different mounting techniques (gone through 4 different designs) & collecting all the tools & equip I didn't already have (sealants, harnesses, power sources, heat gun, bolts & nuts, etc...).

Here's the housing being heated, pryed apart, & disassembled.

Here's the stock projector & lenses

I thought I'd try the MDX projector since it had been done before & was known to fit.

I did tweak how it was mounted to the housing from others previously so it would sit perfectly square in the middle & still use the stock adjustment screws

Now here's the part that's taken the most time. A long long time to get it perfect! I have a lot more respect for those who are good at autobody/ collission stuff.

Here's some of the other essental parts.

DDM Slim Ballast 35W HID Kit

RetrofitSource wiring harness, AMP to DS2 adaptors & some Phillips DS2 bulbs (The DS2 stuff is for the next retro project. The MDX projectors use H11 bulbs).

Lookin good so far! I just ordered those same headlights & am planning on doing a retro-fit on them.

What projectors would you reccomend that would be a fairly easy swap? I know the S200 projectors, E-46 M3, E55 & Acura TL/TSX projectors are some of the best to do it with but which would be fairly easy & not so hard on the bank account if you catch my drift

Thankz!

It's hard to say what will/ won't without trying. There's not much room at all. You have 4" width & 4" height with about 5.5-ish deep to work with. That takes a lot of projectors out the mix right there. Now if you're trying to re-use stock adjusters then that narrows it down again. I'm guessing a 2.5" Valeo, Bosch E46, *possibly* a Bosch E55, *possibly* an S2K are good places to start.

Anything in the Rx330 non AFS family of projectors (Celica, Legacy, MDX, RX8,etc...) will fit exactly like this. Some are H11 bulbs & others are DS2. Either is fine but I'd prefer the DS2 if you can get it.

Since u seem to know what your doing, You think you know why one of my headlights halos are dying out?
Still on dim but seem like they arent getting full power..
Is that a problem with the little ballasts from the pos. and neg. for the halos?

I'm not sure how you have you halo's wired up but I'm guessing you could have a loose connection, short, etc... You can also buy replacement LED's for the Halo's from Modern Performance.

Did you look into modifying the mdx projector with a d2s bulb? Theres been some really good results on hidplanet doing that. What color are you painting the housing? If its black you should tint the angel eyes black to blend in, unless you like the look.

As far as modifying them to DS2... I doubt I'll do anymore MDX's anyway, I'll just do RX330's & call it a day.

I'm not sure you can tint LED angel eyes & get the same results as those who are tinting the CCFL's? I've thought of putting CCFL's in place of these though.

Yeah, I'm basically looking to mod them the easiest way possible & look clean & have a pretty descent light output at the end lol, Im not the most handy and patient with this kind of stuff lol

When I go out to look for bulbs, should i grab the whole headlight, or just the projector? Is the ballast normally on the back of the headlight or back of the projector itself? Sorry for all the questions, Im just trying to have the most knowledge about this before I dig myself a hole lol

Thanks!

Here's the projectors mounted in the housing.

Notice how they sit perfectly centered.

I fired up the ballasts last night & took a few output pics. These pics look a bit more yellow then they look in person. Not too shabby for a Halogen projector.
