Thanks for the kind words! IMHO, HID kits are a waste of money. Those high kelvin rated bulbs (8k, 10k, 12k) are junk. They are good for nothing but color and no real useable output, not to mention you will have hot spots and scattered lighting just dropping HID into a halogen designed housing. The higher you go in kelvin, the more color but less lumens. Stock 4100k delivers the absolute most lumens for the best possible performance. I've gone down the HID kit road years back when I first got into HID and didn't know what I was getting myself into. I soon learned that is not the proper way to do it and the results I got weren't what I was expecting. Especially back a few years ago, when HID was REALLY expensive. My set-up is a tad more expensive than what a typical retro would cost someone, thats only because of the high-end projectors I'm using. There are cheaper projectors out there to be had for less like say the E55 (good entry level bi-xenon) or new Maxima bi-xenon. Honestly, for me HID is something that you get exactly what you pay for. If you skimp out on money and get some cheap knock-off aftermarket kit, expect cheap inconsistant results but if you spend a little extra money, why not do it the right way. The work itself isn't that elaborate, its just time consuming. You can always just buy a set of spare headlights and do this on your free time or you could spend a little extra more money and wait until the Rally proojector assemblies come out for our SRT/Neon headlights. IMO, those are my only options I would consider. Hope that helps you. You have to understand that I'm coming from years of using projectors and oem equipment so I'm going to naturally be biased towards the poor man's HID route.
yes it is bananas! hahaha I'm glad i got a few of you to laugh! lol anywho I took my pcm apart. i'll get pics up later. it's got jelly in it! hahaha stay tuned for the song qoute of the day!
Turns out, the chrome reflector isn't gona be used with my retro now. I could make it fit but it would be very tight. I have now made my own brackets and mounted the projector to the black housing. It is also fully adjustable and I'm able to adjust it with the entie housing bolted into the car, just with the lens off. That way I'm able to fine tune it still. I bought some sheet metal and aluminum today to make a completely new and one-off shroud bezel that will cover the majority of the exposed space. This would be as much of a problem if these TL weren't some damn bulky. The most time consuming part is going to be making the shroud/bezel. Mounting the projector to my brackets and aligning them took like 15 minutes tops instead of me having to go back and forth with that damn chrome reflector I was mounting it to heh. I might have some updates on the shroud tomorrow or if possible, late tonight.
Yay!! black housing!!! hahahaha see i knew you'd go that way =P. anywho the chop looks good sounds even better! Keep it up Hak, I wanna see the Bosch fog retro!
Looks amazing. I dont know if you already posted it, but what does this cost to do from start to finish?
TL's cost around $260-280 area
And its $370 for our oem Hella Gen 3 ballast / 4100k Philips D2S bulbs
Prices range on projectors and wether you buy them used or new. The TL's are more on the expensive side as far as projectors go . Just to so you sort of how they vary, our Bosch E46 (BMW 3 series) projectors we sell are only $169. Our Valeos are $225 so the price just depends on what you want to get and what your looking for and willing to spend for excellent lighting.
