Default My Retrofit....re-doing a disaster

Well my retros were from Boostjunkies and were hellish to say the least. He broke one of my lenses and swapped it with another lens from a different company, warped the hell out of the lens with a heat gun, there was silicone everywhere...etc.

So I took them apart, kept only the projectors and threw everything else in the trash. I bought a new pair of headlights to start over with.

I'm working with the following:
- Gattling Gun Shrouds
- Valeo H7 Halogen projectors with HID bulbs
- Black housing headlights

Here is what the other headlights looked like, good from the front:

Until you get closer:

Or turn them around (they STILL leaked):

Before hating on the Valeo H7's because they're halogen...here is the output:

The process:

In the oven you go:

The lenses off the bowls:

I chose to pop the reflectors off:

Then I started dremeling:

Mounted them briefly:

But chrome was not for me and I wanted to "customize" the shroud to my likings. I chose a paint that was flat black, but it was so flat it looked gray.

So that brings us to today...I stripped that one down and re-did it and got the second one mounted as well.

My problem now is that I cannot get the reflectors back into the headlights. Maybe I'm not strong enough?

whats preventing you from doing that? the only issue i would see is the stock lens fitting back over. is the flange in or outside of the bowl?

the fitment prolly has something to do with the paint. that thin layer of paint is maybe whats hindering you from installing them back in...

nevermind i got what she was talking about. she can't pop the pivet points back on to the post.

unscrew them off the bowl, they're easier to get back on that way.

Yes the pivot points are exactly what I'm talking about. I cannot press hard enough onto the reflector to get them to "pop" back in. Once I take them out of the headlight housing though I'll have to drill holes in the back to get them back in. This is something I was avoiding but it does seem like it's the only way it's going to get done.

I do realize I will probably have to trim the shroud down a bit to clear the lens. But I can't figure out how much I'll need to trim until I get the damned things back in the housing. I won't have a chance tomorrow as we're having a small get together for my graduation (college) and then my father and I have to put a new toilet in. Maybe I can try again on Sunday. I need to get these done!

The back of the housing? Or the back of the reflector? The back of the housing looks just like OE. I can take a shot of the reflector though.

*edit* Here is the back of the reflector, I may widen it up and sink the projector more.

The back of those boostjunkies looked franken-hacked together

I love what you did with the gattling shrouds. Looks much better then before.
