Default Morette HID discussion

This is the thread where you can talk to Morette about HID headlights.
Remember, HID headlights are EXPENSIVE! Morette will post some costs in here to give you an idea.

Probably per pair, as that would be waaaay too expensive for most mere mortals to afford if it was only for one headlight. Morette?

hold on so the HID ones will cost about a 1,000 more than the regulars....thats retarded. My brother just got morettes on his rex, they come with the projector lamps, projector ready for only 600. Then if you want to add HID's in the future you can for only about 300-400$. So why is it that they can have a complete HID kit for about 900-1,000, whereas we (meaning us neon owners who are cheaper and are less likely to afford 1,500 for headlights) have to pay 1,500? Sounds pretty stupid to me, but than again, what the hell do I know?

Probably operating costs. It costs less to manufacter a product when you sell alot of that product. It costs alot more to manufacter a product that is brand new. R&D costs and they have to be able to recoup their money. If they start selling alot, the price will drop accordingly.

There are several variable but if they looked good and were of good quality I would be willing to drop 1500 on a pair of lights. If we would get some sketches of what they might look like that would make it much easier.

Good luck finding someone willing to fork out 1500 on those. Most people here cringe when I tell them a retro costs around $700 with all the parts they have to buy. If they are using Hella projectors, they are not top quality proectors. They are mediocre. Thier reflector bowls aren't anywhere near as polish and smooth as other HID projectors out there, thus killing some of the output.

1500 is way out of the range for 98.5 % of SRT-4 owners. if i'm spending 1500 bucks on my car its going to AGP.

I still don't understand why we cant get a reasonable priced projector housing, and then add our own HID kit to it.

500 for projectors, 400 for the HID kit. thats about the most i'll spend.

i'm being realistic.

sure ton's of people are going to jump in this thread and SAY they will buy a 1500 dollar set of projectors, but those people will be no where to be found when its time to pony up.

Morette would be stuck with a bunch of expensive headlamps that no one will buy.

thats not fair to them.

If this idea had happened 6 months ago. And Morette or whoever was going to make the lights stated there would be a QUALITY projector that's designed for HID in the lights. Then yes, I'd buy them for $1000 a pair or so.

An example would be: A new style headlamp housing incorporating something awesome like an E46 bi-xenon projector. Not some crap projector that's really meant for halogen.

$1500 does seem to be a little excessive.

I am taking a different route on my lighting situation so my replies in these threads are simply to generate data for whoever is researching. I will not be purchasing anything lighting related from a retail source.

For reference my current project is going to cost around $1200 for headlamps and I will have true HID complete. If the $1500 ballpark guess included the electronics for the HID (bulbs/ballasts) then the price would be inline with a true HID conversion. Not some cheesy kit slapped in a lamp that's not actually designed to use HID light.

Just my 2c worth

For those of you that are just hell-bent on projector HID setups like me?
You need to be prepared to invest a MINIMUM of $800-$1000 to covert your headlights. (This estimate is for "true" HID, not some shit slapped in the wrong housing / lamp)

I know jack and/or schitt about HID, so I'm staying out of this one. Morette will monitor this thread, I'm sure, and take all your comments into consideration.

Morette, so you are going to try to supply HID headlights? You figure out the spacing issues yet, or is this going to be a single projector in the middle of the housing like hak's refits?
