Default Lumin-x or other blackout legality

Anyone have any problems with Johnny Law when installing lumin-x or other type of blackouts?

The law in my state, MO, reads that you have to be able to see red light at 500 ft...and also have two red reflectors.

I thought if I installed two red reflectors somewhere on the back, I could fulfill that part of the requirement, but was wondering if enough red light will show through at night.

Are there any good blackouts which are solid black during the day, but allow light at night?

Any blackout is illegal if it covers the reflector portion of your lights. This goes for all states I believe. Use your local PD's rep and area as your own discretion wether or not you'd be hassled by Johnny Law dog.

Tail light does not HAVE to be red as a whole. You just have to have safety reflectors visible and functional.

Can those reflectors be positioned on another area of the car? Say ground level like a Mazda 3

The actual reflectors can't but there is 3M reflective material. I don't see why not as far as being legal.

As long as your car confirms to the minimum requirements your state requires, then thats all that matters.

Sometimes its tuff to read thru the legal jargon but chances are doing so would still be completely legal, functional and safe. Now wether or not you still won't be hasled is another can of worms. There are cops out there who would see a al black tail with no reflectors at the tail and would probably try and pull you over for it. Then thats where you inform them you still within being legal because you've added additional safety reflective strips.

I would imagine it being a equipment violation which is usually nothing more than a fix-it ticket
