Hello All,
OK- I put LED's in my taillights and in my front turnsignal.
Of course I now have hyper-flashing turnsignals.
I really don't want to hack into my harnesses, I would rather just replace the relay. So I pulled it.
Part number says 04871714AC- that's the Mopar #
1043A2 is the Omron number
What I am looking for is the Heavy Duty replacement for this.
I have been seaching the aftermarket parts databases for these relays, looking at Dodge Ram's with tow package, and Dodge Stratus, etc.
No luck though.
Haven't talked to a dealer yet, but maybe someone here works for one and could give me some part number, or just tell me what the H/D replacement would be.
Really want to get rid of the 'Hyper-Flash"
Thanks for the effort (in advance)
Take Care,
CC.
OK- 29 view and nobody knows?
I spoke with the dealer, there is no H/D flasher for this car, so I spoke to a Chrysler dealer about a H/D flasher for a PT Cruiser. I told him I would be towing with it. He told me they had no issues with the flashers on the PT's when they tow, so no H/D relay for that either.
OEM Mopar part number for both cars is 4671714AC, which is slightly different than the one listed in my car. Maybe a service replacement?
I have also contacted a trailer dealer here in Cincinnati that has a excellent reputation. They sell H/D flashers for about everything, so I am going to take them them the relay, and we'll see if we can match something up.
I'll let you guys know,
CC.

Reason: Revision
Know a good parts-man who will allow you to work through his dept to find the relay that will work.
In this case it was NAPA that had the answer.
i don't know what the original application is but the relay that works is:
Triton EP-27.
Sells for $16.00 at your nearest NAPA
So- no need for splicing or using resistors in the wires or whatever.
Just go to NAPA, buy the EP-27, and plug it in.
BTW, you have to take off the cover on the steering column. There are two screws that hold it, on the bottom. Then just pull the top half off. The relay is dead-center on the top. Pull it toward the instrument cluster and it will come right out. Plug in the new one, put the cover back on and you're done.
Good find. I didn't want to put LEDs in my car, because I couldn't find the electronic flasher to replace the mechanical one. Good work. This should be a sticky or in the how to section so this info doesn't get lost in the back pages.
Coincidentally, I took the old stock relay apart.
It has an IC chip inside, and what looks like a metal bar in the shape of a U going from one terminal to another on the board that the chip is attached to.
I am going to replace the bar with a 10-ohm resistor and see what happens.
^^^^^^ i 2nd that question....this makes em blink normally?...i guess thats the point. Bump to make a sticky
Yup, that is exactly the point. I hated the ricer look of the hyper-flashers.
This eliminates the need to hack into you tail light wiring harness, to buy massive (ugly) resistors that get hot and have to be insulated, and allows you to swap back to bulbs in the future without having to undo the hack job.
Though I image I have now upset some vendors by eliminating the sales of the resistors.

Strangely enough, the relay that is in the car is electronic- i.e. IC board with chip.
The replacement is mechanical- it says "trailering" on the top of it. It has a louder 'click' than the factory one as well. Which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.
XTREMEBOOST OF ORLANDO FLORIDA FUCKED MY TRANSMISSION. THEY SWAPPED OUT A CLUTCH AND PUT NO TRANNY FLUID BACK IN. but i can't prove it, so i guess that means i'm lying. STAY AWAY FROM THIS FORMER VENDOR. THEIR TURBO KITS ARE TERRIBLE AND THEIR INSTALLS ARE EVEN WORSE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
I would need to take a look at the relay in my SRT-4, but they do sell one on SuperBrightLEDs.com. I think it is $3. It looks like one that would fit my SI for sure.

Hi Steve,
I looked at teh one on that website. It is a 2 or 3 prong unit that they offer. The relay in the SRT-4 is a 5-prong unit. That is why it was so hard to find, because the aftermarket people offered everything in 2/3 prong formats, but nothing in 5 prong.
So, basically, it may fit your SI, but it won't fit your SRT.
Take Care,
CC.
Anybody going to Sticky this or is this going to be lost forever once the questions die down?

Yeah, I wasn't sure. I haven't taken apart my SRT yet. I should ask them if they carry 4 or 5 prong onces as well. Thank you.
Good work. I've never had success in my other vehicles with upgrading to a heavy duty flasher but if it worked for you then awesome news. Usually it takes a load equilizer or homebrew resitor pack to make the rapid flash go away. There is no real hacking involved with using a load equilizer though. Just ties into two leads.
