Hey i'm just did a project with putting glow under my seats, looks kinda sweet. and i'm trying to see where else to put some sticks. i've got an idea for the front grill. in the little bar that runs horizontal across the intercooler. i'ma get those pencil thin sticks. i ran one across it to see what it lokos like, and it's bad ass. i'l post pics soon. anyone have any ideas where to put more? i'm doin BLUE. i love the silver/blue style
(keep in mind that its REAL orange cause my dome light was orange too... looks much cooler when JUST the underdash lights are on, but it'll give you an idea... I dont even HAVE this car anymore so this is the only pic i have.
I got em at Tweeter, but they don't carry them anymore. Mine are Street Glow 9inch tubes. You could go a little longer, but you don't have too. Just depends on how bright you want them to be. Buy them on ebay = much cheaper.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFLs) are sealed glass tubes filled with inert gases. When a high voltage is placed across the tube, the gases ionize creating ultraviolet (UV) light. The UV light, in turn, excites an inner coating of phosphor, creating visible light.
Here is some examples of CCFL tubes in different colors and for sale in 12V applications http://www.xpcgear.com/lightingmods.html or go here http://www.sunbeamtech.com/PRODUCTS/CCFL.HTML. The white gives off a very clean hue and lights up interiors nicely and not all crazy. Its the same lighting that is used on ultra high end vehicles and accent lighting areas. This is also what true BMW angel eyes use, rather than the off brand LED kits.
Those look pretty good and the prices are good too. I wonder if they would work with my transformer? (Street Glow Music Interface)
CCFL is not intended or good to be used where its turned on/off repeatedly. i.e turn signals, music interfaces, brake lights/tail lights, etc etc
But yes, they definatly have a nice look to them. That pic really doesn't do CCFL justice. You just have to play with a tube to appreciate it over conventional neon tubes.
Yep... that's what I used in the above pics... you can get a set of 6" cold cathodes... both lamps hook up to one transformer that you can mount in behind the center dash/console-thingie...
Then just stick/twist-tie the tubes under the dash. Looks really good.
anyone have a pic of one behind the Intercooler? I am wanting to do this....Plz someone post pics!
