Default Illegal HID Kits Video

Not sure if this is a repost or not but thought it was interesting. This video is from some european automotive show but the laws around aftermarket HID's are similar here in the US.

I'm not posting this to argue legality issues... It's just has some good side by side pics of halogen, hid kits & hid projectors.

See Video Here

I know that Hak is smiling right now

nice video

most people know and understand that kits are illegal...but if you wanna get technical, so is half of the stuff we do to ours cars every day...

not arguing legality either, just pointing out the fact that its up to the buyer if he/she wants to ignore legality on this mod, like many other mods

hell, if ya wanna get techincal...retro's are illegal as well, lol

I live in Ontario Canada and I showed my lights to an officer. He said no problem as the project a white light on the road not blue or purple or any other color. I also aimed the headlights down and I haven't been high beamed yet and you still can see much better with them lowered and I also have eyelids to help with the glare from the top.

This info. sheds new light to the subject of HID conversions. Just a question tho, is it illegal here in the states aswell? I see a large amount of the general public with their cars bright as fuck coming down the road at night.
And is one better that another, which would be recommended for our cars? Not that I need a kit, my factory lights with silverstars seem to do a swell job now.

hid kits and projector retros are both illegal in the states unless you submit them for DOT testing(yeah thats not cheap). if and ONLY if they pass DOT certification, are they legal......

So you buy them and take the chance? do you adjust them a certain way so that they dont shine onto other cars?

yeah basically. there's very little chance of having legal problems with hid kits and retro fits, as long as you keep it safe. aim them down so they're not shining right into peoples eyes, and dont drive like an asshole and chances are, youll never get stopped about them...

(im not saying you drive bad, just saying in general)

Makes sense, i have been thinking about getting some but i had no idea they were illegal. a buddy of mine got the HID Projectors and angel eyes for his 00 maxima and he hasnt had any issues yet so maybe i will have him help me out with mine.

Projectors are a whole different ball game. If your car came with hallogen projectors then upgrading to HID is piece of cake & not an issue. It's when you upgrade a car with a reflector style of headlight (bulb shines backwards off of the reflector & then is reflected forward). The projectors curved magnafying lense & cutoff shield inside control the beam pattern in a much more precise manner thus keeping the light on the road instead of randomly scattered.
