I just picked up a set of stockers that have some scratches I would like to get rid of. I've seen this done at I body shop I worked at but don't remember the steps to get it just right. Can anyone help out?
- Wetsand them with 1500 grit then 2000 grit sandpaper using a soft block.
- Pick up some Presta 1500 Compounding solution for Rotary Buffers or something similar.
- Grab your Rotary Buffer (I have a DeWalt 849, but Makita, Snap on Blue Line, etc are fine just NOT one of those stupid cheap orbitals from Auto Zone they don't work the same), and a yellow compounding pad and go to town with small amounts of the solution at a time, at a low RPM. If you've never used a rotary buffer before, don't start now, trust me.
- After, swap over to a Black waffle pad and use something like 3M's Finesse It 2 or Norton's Black Ice system to finish it up. Then wax accordingly.
Pictures of how I took a HUGE scratch I took out of the black housing headlights I bought using the same method:

why didnt you go with the 3M clear bra instead of the one you have on in that picture/
Its for winter only. The clear bras look like hell after awhile, and half my car is flat black, glossy clear bra = failure.

None taken, but you need to understand not everyone has detailing or body shop knowledge. Which is why they ask questions like these so people w/the knowledge can answer.
Using a product like Meguiars PlastiX by HAND is another method although it will take longer and it requires more effort but you can have the same results. Of course this is for those of you without rotary machines.
getting these headlights clear as day might be more trouble than your willing to go thbrough ddodz......just getting ones might be easier option.........i say this because heres the likleuy sceanario that im sure we can all relate to.......you gpo through all the rouble get all the right tools and you might spend $20 or you might spend $50..take the time to do the job and it just does'nt cvome out the way you thought it would. now your money and time in the hole and with somthing that still looks like shit.........colorsanding is a bitch....

Which is exactly why I paid for new OE Depos to replace my extremely weathered and sandblasted 100K mileage headlights and fogs.
