Default How-To: HID Fog Install

Ok so i didn't see a HID fog light install anywhere "forgive me if there is one", so i decided to take some pictures during my install. Granted it is pretty easy, but it should help some people out.

So here is how it came in the mail
Hid bulbs, ballasts and the relay with all the wiring and fuse. This way you can power the Ballasts right off the battery, rather than stock wiring.

So the 1st thing you want to do is jack the car up off the ground. Crawl under the car and locate the factory clip going to the bulb, and unplug that.

Next pull out the factory pos bulb. Lefty Loosey.

Next install the HID bulb. Be very careful not to touch the bulb with your fingers or anything else for that matter.
Righty tighty.

Position the ballast where you want to mount it. You dont have many choices if you have the stock intake like myself. I just mounded it on the factory air-box.
Run the wires from the ballast down to your newly installed HID fog light, and attach them.
I used Molding Tape from Murrys to attach the ballast to the air box.

Here it is mounted.

To be continued after work today. It started to rain after i got that far.

i just installed mine like 2 days ago. only took me like 15 minutes.

mounted the ballasts on the bumper with double sided tape.

my kit runs off the factory harness and not an extra one.

the driver side is the easiest...
the passenger side is a little more difficult because you have less room to play with.

you shouldnt have to jack up your car, you can and should be able to just touch and feel your way through it all.

Id like to see what im doing rather than banging the HID light off metal objects trying to "feel" my way there.
Also running them off the factory wiring is FTL.

i didnt bang anything against anything, gots to be careful yo!

or you could just remove the fog light itself.

2nd its actually better running it off the factory harness rather than the extra one. nothing is cut if thats what your thinking, its all plug and play.
- you dont have to deal with the extra wires
- you dont have to deal with purchasing relays when they decide to go out
- it gets rid of all the flicker you may experience when using the harness

Your wrong.
The relay kit gets power directly off the battery, and grounded directly off the battery, then uses the factory wiring to trigger the relay and kick on the fog lights. The stock wiring is not meant for a high powered HID setup, esp when they are igniting, where they draw the most current. Nothing is cut with the relay kit either. Read up son.
Btw your ass backwards on the flicker.
The relay GETS RID of the flicker associated with using stock wiring. My WRX and VW both flickered until i used a relay kit.

not trying to compete with you buddy, but install it how you like.

as for me, installing them with out the extra harness is a lot better, less time consuming, and it never till this day gave me a problem.

880's are the bulb size for the hid's sir.

X infinitah on using a relay for HID's. Not using one is just asking for failure or worse, fire.

I took my bumper off when installing mine, and used a relay harness that a very good friend made for me. I didn't mount them where you could see them though since my car is a show car. Mine are on the frame rail apron. On the driver's side I had no issue, I used a pre-existing hole in the apron of the frame rail. On the passenger side I had to relocate the horn and bend the bracket a bit to get the ballast to sit right. This way everything is securely mounted and screwed in. I used double sided tape as well as the provided screws with the kit. I still have yet to run a wiring harness for the Halos (I have the projector foglights), I need to figure out what I want to hook them up to for a power source.
