Default Hid's in stock housings.

So in most cars putting Hid's in the stock housing throws light everywhere and blinds everyone, is this also true for the srt-4. I really dont want to spend 1k on a retro.

Yes this is true. Any HID kit thrown into ANY non HID or projector housing sends light everywhere. Take a look at this thread. It has pictures of both retro and hid "plug and play kits"

Performance differences between a aftermarket HID kit and a OEM HID retro

Another option if you don't want to spend 1K is to purchase the pieces you need and do the retro yourself. The cost depends on which and where you get your parts from. HIDplanet.com usually has a bunch of projectors of all kinds. You would have to keep in mind the dimensions you have to work with though. Some projectors maybe to long or to big to fit into the housing so keep that in mind. HIDplanet.com Also offers the HID package that you would need. That is the bulbs ballast and everything you would need to start. Another alternative would be to search around on the forums (here and others) I know there are a few people selling their retros Awwsheet comes to mind.

the glare isn't all that bad, and the lighting performance is most definetly improved

The glare is pretty bad in our stock housings.

To end this once and for all, I'll have plenty of pics of kit users at the nats against my retro and also next to stock halogen so we'll have one real god compairson coming real soon . That way it will be clear just how much glare each one puts out. I'll let the pics speak for themselves but I think everyone wioll agree when they see the pics that the stock housings do throw out considerable glare and have a horrible beam pattern on HID.

Brighter doesn't=better

you honestly can say this is 'improved" ? I'd rather ride on halogen than that.

allow me to point out the problem areas...

and let's not forget about the glare money shot

i currently run a Oem Lexus 4300k kit w/ casper shields...proper aiming is key with these housings or any non-projector housing...to many people have their HID's aimed up to the sky...

Keep educating Hak! Im sick of being blinded on the road by people with these cheap HID kits... either go with a retro or just leave your stock lighting... people have to understand that its not worth blinding other drivers on the road just so you can have people think you are driving a lexus.. I have yet to see any pictures of a decent looking beam patern with a HID kit. Yet some people swear up and down that it looks good, and the lighting is great.

Then make retros cheaper. how does one do this? I live in the mountains, and our stock headlights suck. I right there with you I hate HIDs. Try driving home after working from 0330 in the morning to 700 at night, through a canyon for a half an hour. and have some peckerhead come flying around the corner with 8000k hid bulbs. I aim for them now. afterall. I couldn't see. But for real. I need something different. I refuse to put those bulbs in if they are going to make me become the people I hate. What to do, what to do.
