Just because you haven't had a problem doesn't mean you won't have one ever. It's like saying I don't have health insurance because I'm healthy. Ok, but wait till you slip & break your arm, that'll be a $3000 mistake.
HID ballasts draw 23,000volts upon start up & some cheap or older ballasts can draw upwards of 15 to 30amps per ballast upon start up. The stock wiring was never designed to handle that kind of load.
