Default Hey guise, got a few questions...

Ok, first things first. Total lighting noob. I am not even gonna try to pretend like I know what I'm talking about. I'm just here for some answers that I KNOW you guys have...

I have looked at wiggy's a4 retro job, and I have NO desire to do that. I will however be willing to hax into the housing to make whatever given projectors fit.

Is there a SINGLE kit, that has EVERYTHING YOU NEED, start to finish to install HID's? I see kits on ebay, but they are too cheap to be of good quality. Where can I go to buy a kit with hi and low beams, that basically bolts into the stock headlight housing? Also, will it come with everything I need to start the project, and finish it and have lights?

I'm not interested in doing the insane jobs like haks and wiggys, I want the lights too look fairly stock and me to not have to spend 2 months making it work?

So my final question is,

1. Kits, complete kits. With EVERYTHING I NEED.

2. Best kits?

3. Where are they?

I really love the look of HID's, but I would rather not try to fabricate the housing myself, and I really don't have a grand to drop to pay someone to fab them for me.

I thank you in advance for the help...

Since it sounds like you would have trouble with a retro, I would recommend this route (there are no COMPLETE kits to do a retro that I know of)

Headlights with "ok" projectors in them from Modern

DEPO Projector Headlights 03-05 Neon - Lights & Bulbs

HID Kit (You'll need the H7 bulbs, I wouldn't recommend any higher than 6000k)

Raptor Brand 35W HID Kit: DDM Tuning - HID Kits, HID Bulbs, DEPO Lighting, BMW and Porsche Performance Accessories

And wiring harness so you don't melt your factory wires

HID Accessory Wiring Harness: DDM Tuning - HID Kits, HID Bulbs, DEPO Lighting, BMW and Porsche Performance Accessories

I have this setup (except I went with the 55w 6000k kit) and Im really happy with it for the money and time I spent.

or you can go this way...

PROJECTOR HID XENON LEN KIT Angel Eye E46 M3 TSX H4 D2S:eBay Motors (item 120480847099 end time Nov-13-09 17:58:12 PST)

I bought these last week, installed them today and damn they look awesome. I am very happy with these. I think you would be too.

Here is thread where another guy here has used them and he seems to like them too

Anyone used these in a retro project?

Hope this helps!

The real question is.....do you want to do a retrofit or do you want plug and play bulbs? Because there are vendors on here that will make you a retrofit, for a price of course, and you simply install them into the car. This requires you doing no work at all in that regard but stlil gets you the best quality light output possible.

The reason I have no desire to attempt to do my own is because I will inevitably destroy them in the process. I tend to get mad at things that take a really long time to complete. I can't work on things bit by bit.

But if there are a set of HID's that involve VERY LITTLE of me hacking into the housing, I'd be fine with that too. It's not that I can't do things like that, I just like for things to be done in one afternoon, not 40. Anyway, thanks for the links and such,

@spark plug, How much do the vendors on here charge? If you have an idea that would be great. I just want a "from this all the way to this" estimate, thanks.

Hey... Me again...

If I got these Projector Halo LED Headlights 03-05 Neon - Lights & Bulbs and put these GENUINE MTEC HID CONVERSION KIT 9004 9005 9006 8000K:eBay Motors (item 360201704724 end time Nov-01-09 22:10:44 PST) in them, would it work? I'm not wanting alot of hassle. I get plenty of that doing other things to my car. I want plug and play, but I don't want ricer quality plug and play.

You do realize the $220 kit is the same thing I posted for under $100, nothing is gonna change.

Well literally everything I've read says that you get what you pay for, I was kinda going by that. I'm sorry if I was wrong. Please forgive me. If I had say... 600 bucks to spend on projectors and hid's, how good of quality could I get? In other words, what's the best quality you can get?

The best quality is a retrofit. But if you want easy then you can buy a cheap HID kit from anywhere. ND4SPD sells kits on here for $99 including the relay harness you will need to protect your factory wiring. You can find HID kits everywhere. All of the plug and plays, regardless of price are identical. Now, that being said you can put a 9007 HID kit in the factory housings, in black housings or buy the Modern Performance projectors (which have worse output than stock as an FYI) and put H1 HIDs in them.

The last three are going to give about the same results, but there is nothing that can compare to a true retrofit. Here's a picture of my output with the retrofit I had last season:

When you say, "retrofit" you are referring to nothing but the projector fitted into the neons housing correct? If so, how much is a retrofit, assuming this includes no light source whatsoever and I've relegated myself to having to buy HID's, no matter what I purchase.

ND4SPD's link that I gave you above tells you exactly how much he charges. Some start as little as $575, if you buy the headlights he knocks money off the $575. A retrofit is yes, essentially fitting an OEM projector made for HIDS into a halogen housing.

i know you're new to this, but i would suggest taking a stab at tryting make a retro'd headlight. because here's whats gonna happen.

you buy a standard 9007 hid kit. everythings looks good. but you'll be getting high beamed by every on coming car because the beam from the hid bulb is not regulated.

you buy the depo projectors (without nd4spd's services) and you won't be able to see shit. because the light output is so poor.

so with that said; if you like the style of the depo projectors, get a set and immediately send it to nd4spd to stick so real projectors in there. or you can make a set of retros out of stock headlights yourself nd4spd already has brackets made for us, and thats the hard part of the retro. you gotta start somewhere, and its not as bad as it looks to make a set.

there alot of progress threads, and how-to's here all about retros. and every possible question has that could be asked about retros, have been asked. so anybody who tries this is not left in the dark. give it a try whats the worst that could happen?

ps i heard through the grapevine that products will be made to make retros a bolt on affair. so it will be 3x easier
