Has anyone been able to sucessfully take the OEM headlight assembly apart for the purpose of converting to a retro HID ? I have read where the stock assembly can not be heated open.

NOT ENTIRELY TRUE...It has been done and yes it takes patience...as well as cutting discs and some form of bondo or another STRONG adhesive to mold the two halves of the unit back together to keep it from leaking.

In other words, the aftermarket headlights come apart MUCH eaiser and without cutting.

yes i prefer the depot's aswell...but there are members who have done so with the stock units. and havent had to go through all the trouble of things you just listed!
